The small led screen in the middle? I looked at it but did not notice a temperature. Is there a toggle to display the temp or is it always displayed. Thank you for your reply.
on your 90, to display the engine temp on the climate digital readout:
press both fan speed UP and Down arrow buttons for 5 seconds, -00 will display
press Up button until 16 displays
press Auto fan button, this will display engine temp in C
you can drive around like this to monitor the temp
My temp gauge about in the middle is 93C / 200F
^ this is a great response and a good example why I love this forum. Perfect for the OP to get the information he wants out of his car, even if it's not on the normal dash display.
lrj975,
Thank you immensely for the procedure outlined in your response. I have no idea where you came up with the information, but no one anywhere has been able to give me anything similar. The owners manual did not have this info. Have not sifted through the service manual yet. I am very pleased that I joined the forum and it is wonderful to have such information available. Is there any other top secret information I need to know about? Thanks again!
lrj975,
I used the process you described and I'll be darned......it worked. The highest my temp got up to was 105C, which is 221F. Not sure if that is too hot, but did notice that when I put on the AC, the temp came down considerably. Jumpered both fans at the A and B pins on the OBD and they both ran. May see about setting the fan to come on at a lower temp, and will changed out the coolant and thermostat since the Vette is new to me and I am not sure when it was last serviced. Thanks again for your help!!

That is all perfect OE behavior. Your cooling system is working as intended. Glad you figured out the trick!
I had the same issue on my '91. The temp gauge would peg after about 5 minutes of running. I checked the ECM reading with my scanner and it was a185*. After some research here I came across several threads on this issue. Many led to the coolant gauge temp sender. I found the GM specs for the resistance/temp values and sure enough the sender was way out of spec. I venture to say you have the same issue. Replace it with a genuine GM part. I tried 2 from the local auto parts store and they were both way off. The GM one, though somewhat pricey, works flawlessly and is very close to the ECM's reported temps.
Kahuna911,
Thank you for a possible solution. I am going to contact our local Chevrolet dealer and see about getting the part. I will let you folks know how it all works out!
