I was talking to my buddy in the bar, and he said I was lucky to have found a 'vette in such good condition because people tend to drive them hard. I said, no, no, most people who own a 'vette drive something else every day.
So I'm curious as to what the proportion is between daily drivers and non-daily drivers. So, is the 'vette your daily driver?
I drive something else everyday right now, but am in the hunt for a GS. When that happens I will probably end up driving the black one everyday if I dont sell between now and then.:)
The first 2 Vettes I owned were my daily drivers. 120,000 miles and 77,000 miles. Drove them every day rain or shine.
My current ride is only driven on weekends, but if I could afford to have 2 Vettes, I would go back to using a Vette as my daily driver. Their is nothing like coming out of work and jumping into the Vette to drive home.
I originally bought the car to be a driver. I drove it in '96-'99 all season including bad winters. The car was painted in 2000...I vowed never to drive it in the winter again. Well, in 2001, some flaws showed through the paint, I noticed some rock chips along the bottom and said the hell with it! I'll drive it again in the winter. It's been caught so far in two storms! :D One snow, and it's been in the pouring cold rain all day. It won't melt! That garaging it 'til spring wasn't for me anyway.
The people who thought I was a waxer we're soo wrong hehehe :jester
If I lived in a snow free climate I would drive the Vette everyday. I would still have a 4 seater car to carry people around in but the Vette would get the most daily mileage. I just got my Vette on Aug 20th and have put 1500 miles on it. This coming summer it will get a lot more!
Since I'm single, pay a mortgage & car payments and take care of absolutely everything myself, I only own 1 car and thats the vette. So I drive it every day, rain, snow or shine. Its not a problem, its more solid and reliable than any car I've ever owned :yesnod: Besides, if I had another car, I wouldn't be driving it anyway  because it would make no sense :jester
Driven Daily. My 87 is my only car and it has 144,000 miles on it. You know, I have heard the Harley riders say: "I rode my motorcycle to a trailer convention in Daytona."
I drive my every day because it's all I've got, I would probably drive it most often if I had something else too, but that's another issue.
Here's the thing though, what did your friend mean by good shape? A beautiful car can be driven extrememly hard and not me mechanically sound. Meanwhile a mechanically sound car can be ugly as hell. Appearances aren't always everything.
One other things to consider, a lot of the cars you find at the race track are some of the best maintained cars on the road. For instance, when was the last time you flushed the brake fluid in anything? Well I flushed mine as soon as I boiled it at the track. It's not something that you think about until it's too late, but because I raced I found the need for replacing the fluid. If I didn't race then my brakes might have failed me at some other bad time. What about your coolant levels and tire pressures? I make sure that everything in my car is 100% because I know that the way I drive if it's not I'm gonna be dead.
Any true Corvette owner would have taken excellent care of the car and it doesn't matter if he / she drove it hard or not because it was properly maintained.
Started out as a garage queen, the more I drove it, the more I wanted to drive it, had it for about 4 months now and put 3000 miles on it ( 2000 in the last six weeks )
My '96 is NOT a garage car, but I do have a 1990 Acura that I drive daily. I work 1.7 miles from my house, so it doesn't seem right to only drive it that far. If I had a longer spirited commute, I would be driving it more often. I do get it out of the garage as much as possible.
