Help getting the rear hatch open?

I did run a quick search as I'm certain this has to have been many times....came up dry?

On the '87 I'm unable to open the rear hatch. The button does nothing, and I'll for sure have to rip into this further. Is there an emergency method (release) for popping them open?

my 87 has that short 6 inch wire pull hidden under the molding. Search for it and when you find it, attach a tag so you can find it again

Should be a wire off the solenoid as shown.
