Default 1984 Callaway?

So long story short, I have a lead on a 1984 Corvette. The owner is 90 years old and can’t finish the restoration. He is asking $3500. I’m going to check it out tomorrow.

He claims that it is Callaway serial number 0005.

My question is, did Callaway make a Corvette in 84? I thought they were all 87 and newer. This either sounds too good to be true and the guy doesn’t know what he has.

There is no 84 Callaway. There was 1 '86 built and everything was 87 and newer

Could it be possible that it’s an 84 that was modified by Callaway after the fact? Did they do that?

No, that did not happen. There is no Callaway pre 87 besides the one 86 I mentioned.

Back in March 2021, someone else asked the exact same questions. I will answer the same as back then:

No such car. RPO B2K for the Callaway Twin Turbo Option began in 1987, although one 1986 was built, as well.

Ask questions. Get pics. Lots of each.

From all I have read and my resource books on Corvette does not list any Callaway's being built in 1984.

Personally I wouldn't care, for 3500 if I pop that hood and see turbos I'd buy it.

Well this was interesting. I think someone tried to make a Callaway clone 30 years ago and the car has been rotting in the sun for at least 20. It did start thought.

1984, auto trans, no turbos. - hard pass.

What a steaming pile. I think that car has appeared online before and was shot down then, too. It's not a Callaway.

The Hood and Gas Door emblem inserts are legit appearing, and same with the one on the dash center which was installed on the rear bumper trim on 1987-Only Callaway Corvettes.

The POS radiator shroud plaque is complete

Thanks for the pics. It made my Sunday.

The only thing close to a pre-86 Callaway would be the twin turbo test mules that GM had out in 1985. I saw it in a couple of R&T top speed issues.
