Hi Guys. I have a 1996 Grand Sport that i hardly drive. 1000 -2000 miles per year. Id like to insurer With The National Corvette Museum ins co. Has anyone had any dealings with them as far as claims. How is their service? Their underwriter ins company has bad reviews as fat as their home ins coverage but i cant find auto reviews. Any help would be appreciated. I will post on the ZR1 site also
Adam, Please look at the use of commas. Overnight is ONLY in front of vehicle exhibitions. Comma before and after. There is NO overnight if front of leisure/pleasure drives. I agree if it had overnight- then all uses after would allow overnight use. The way it is written is sure not clear the overnight applies to the leisure/pleasure drives. Dan
 Are, you, serious?
All, I have had millions in claims paid out for taking a trip with their spouse across this great country. This is all that matters.
From this point forward I am not going to reply to actual questions from others. I know our policy, and I know what it will cover. I have seen our coverage put to use while whaleman has not. I have seen claims paid in situations where whaleman has called out comma placement or other erroneous claims.
Just make sure you understand the fine print about when you can actually drive the car. Can't drive to Menards to buy a wrench. Can't drive to grocery to buy a gallon of milk. Can't drive to dentist office. Can't drive to a restaurant with the wife for dinner. Why don't you just try to get them to even tell you when you can drive. Yes, you can drive back and forth to a car show. Dan
The National Corvette Museum and NCM Insurance Agency love to see the cars we insure driven so we highly encourage you to take your car out on a nice day and enjoy it! There are some restrictions in the policy. You are covered for pleasure use, so take it out on a nice day to the ice cream shop, car club event or to a car show. Please do not hesitate asking us any questions about your usage – we are more than happy to discuss your specific needs.
Cut and pasted from NCM site. Just check out the hidden legal language. "take your car out on a nice day" means they can deny a claim for driving in the rain. "take it out on a nice day to the ice cream shop" means you can only stop if you can see your car like at a dairy queen. NOTE: they did not say restaurant where you park and walk in. "there are some restrictions in the policy"- try to find this language before you sign up. I looked into this and emailed numerous times to get a copy of this restrictive wording and was not successful. Dan
Can I take my car to the mall, grocery store, golf course, or movies?
Generally these items are considered daily use type activities and best suited for standard auto coverage. If a car show is in the mall parking lot, no problem!
Another cut and paste from FAQ's. NO mall, grocery, golf, movies! Seriously? Dan
No experience with NCM but that sounds awfully restrictive. Maybe call them and see if they have options to reduce or add in parts to your policy to allow more free use?
I have hagerty with agreed value. Allowed to drive it to work a few days a week if I want during summer (agent got that cleared for me), etc... as long as I have an actually “daily” there is no issue. Set a mileage limit around 5k if I recall... I went through my normal insurance agent who also resells the hagerty policies.
So...I drive it whenever I feel like and wherever I feel like EDIT 07/06/2021 to clear up my intent: I drive it whenever I feel like and wherever I feel like *within reason and according to how I like to use my sports car*...This does NOT mean I drive it to tow the boat, haul mulch, go to doctors/dentist appointments, do routine grocery runs etc...that's not what the *intent* of my car is in the first place (it is why I have a truck, this is a sports car!) nor how I would drive it regardless of insurance policy! If I’m out and about cruising and decide to swing by the grocery store it’s not a problem. However if I used it in a manner that one would consider a “daily” consistently then yeah that’s not the intent of classic car insurance nor would I have that type of policy. There’s also a lot of good faith parts to this and so much gray area do you think the ins would really reject a claim if it was hit in a grocery parking lot? I guess maybe if they could tell you were driving for Uber eats?! NCM may be more strict in that tho, but based on my agent my usage as described is fine with hagerty.
What are your usage restrictions/guidelines?Simply put, we want you to enjoy your classic vehicle. While there are some restrictions in the policy, you’re covered for pleasure use, whether it's a drive on a gorgeous summer day, a trip to the ice cream shop, attending club events or going to shows. If you have specific questions about usage, especially if you own a newer vehicle (generally 1990 and newer), we're happy to discuss them with you.
Don't want to start an argument but Haggerty is just as restrictive as NCM. You can add the drive to work two days a week option. Above is cut and paste from Haggerty site. Do you notice how close the wording is? Except they require a "gorgeous" day. Please take a minute to scan and post the restrictive wording from your actual policy. I am aware that most people who have Haggerty don't even have a copy of the policy. Dan
I have NCM and must confess, I have never read the policy, just went on what others have said.
I have Grundy on one of my other muscle cars and must make a mental note to read it also.
I had State Farm and had problems with them about agreed upon value and depreciation.
You really need a lawyer to wade through all this fine print.

Do you REALLY have a copy of the policy in your possession? Most do not. Very hard to get. I tried to get a sample copy of the policy when I was considering it and was DENIED. If you do please scan and post the restrictive wording. Thanks, Dan

No, I don't think I do, I think all I have is a "declarations" page but not sure where it is off hand either. But must admit, this thread has really got me thinking.
Bottom line is if you are considering NCM or Haggerty ask to get a copy of the policy you are buying BEFORE you sign up. When they say no then you can ask yourself why.

Thank You for your honesty. I can tell you now realize that the restrictive wording is NOT on the declarations page. Dan
I have looked into the cost at the “specialized” insurers and since I like to drive my cars when I want, where I want, and as often as I want, I stayed with my regular insurer. If the extra couple of hundred dollars per year becomes an issue, I probably can’t afford to have a car as a hobby!
I started a thread on this months ago when I was considering these two companies. Literally 100's if not a thousand members of this forum have insurance from one of these two companies. Not one person posted that they had a real copy of the policy they owned. Dan

It seems to me that NMC insurance is through a Philadelphia company or someone else, American something or other, and that they are just an agent. Has anyone ever tried to get a copy of the policy from the real insurance company?

That would be called an underwriter. YES, I tried to get copies of policys from both these companies and was denied. First time you see the policy you buy from these two companies is in court. Dan
I bet on Tuesday these two companies will be fielding some calls from customers saying they lost their policy and would like another copy. Then the fun starts. Dan
I have a friend who owns a big insurance agency. I asked him about this. He said there was a special website for agents and attorneys that list the full policies from all insurance companies EXCEPT these two. Your attorney can't even get a copy before court. Dan

Thanks for your information. I for one will be rethinking both Grundy and NMC. Any company that won’t tell me what I am paying for is “suspect” at best.

Please call on Tuesday and report back what they say. Dan

I'm with this program. My Corvette is insured with the same company as my other cars. I applied to NCM insurance once. Since I wouldn't agree to all the restrictions I couldn't buy insurance there. F**k restrictions.
