Then there's the driving test! If the front end or rear end tries to bail out on turns, particularly on rough surfaces, they are shot :smash:
But the test i like, particularly on a car I just bought...is the "put new shocks on and see the difference" test
Not trying to spend your money, but unless you start out with new shocks, you don't have a baseline to determine handling
As a possible baseline, I go through rear shocks (billsteins) in 25,000 miles and fronts last a little longer, but I replace them all at the same time. No signs of leaks, but they flunk the driving test. Rear end gets a little skitish and front wants to plow
