Default Reverse lockout bypass help

Hey guys so figures why the corvette wasn’t going into reverse. Broken reverse lockout cable (picture attached) but the other function of the lockout is when you have to take the key out. You must shift the car into reverse from the factory to remove the key as almost like a park feature. But now with this being disconnected how do you bypass it? My guess is me shoving the cable in as hard as I can until the key releases off and out. Has anyone else had this issue and didn’t want to by a 300+ dollar cable and uninstall every piece of trim that’s from 1980(somthing) lol!? Thanks -Johnny

It's a safety feature to help prevent the steering being locked while the car is being driven and an "emergency" has the driver turn the key to OFF for some reason. Unless it is in Reverse (unlikely during such emergency) the steering can't be locked. The later C4s use the button on the key cyl that has to be depressed to get the key to LOCK.

The other end of the lock-out cable terminates at the ignition switch. There is a nylon receptacle that the cable inserts into. The nylon receptacle is retained to the switch by two tiny Philips head screws. Remove these two screws, remove the nylon receptacle, and you're done. No more reverse lock out. The key operates normally. BEWARE: You can now turn the key to LOCK (which locks the steering wheel) directly from RUN. Be careful.

Do you know if I actually have to disconnect the cable from the ignition switch for it to function like this? Or can I just disconnect it from the shifter and leave the cable in place??? Kind of were I want to end rather then risk breaking anymore plastic!
