Mod Pricing Questions...???
I posted this in C5 Tech also ...
Currently I am Vette-less, but plan to get back into a Vette in the near future. Probably right around the time the C6 will replace the C5.
I have done some digging and have found that prices for some modifications for C4's are less than for C5's.
While I have not been into Vettes for long enough to remember when the C5 was not around, I know some/many of you have.
C5 mod pricing has become more and more competative and prices have come down, and will probably go down more until the C5 is replaced.
So now my question ... when the C5's first came out, in 1997, how were modifications for it priced relative to C4's ... did they cost more? less? equal?
I ask this because I wonder if the C5's transition into the C6 will cause a nice drop in C5 mod prices ... This is all purely hypothetical ... and just for my personal education ... since I am fairly new to Vette's in general ...
C5's are generally more expensive to mod because the LS1 and LS6 are totally different platforms than the LT1/LT4 as far as systems go. The exhaust on a C5 is more complicated and has more bends than a C4 exhaust, so the C5 exhaust systems cost a little more than the C4 systems. You also have to take into account that the C4 Corvettes have been around for almost 20 years now. That is a long time for the aftermarket to produce parts and to innovate. The sheer number of C4 Corvettes on the road and the many vendors available also contribute to the cost of the parts.
I am sure that C5 mods will become cheaper when the C6 comes out, just because of the supply and demand of older Corvettes when a new model comes out. But that will even out with time. :seeya
