I just bought this car and have determined the ebrake is slightly on 100% of the time. I did try and use the brake 3 different times to try and turn it off. You can hear the drag on the rotors. I just put new rotors and pads on last week.
My question is I live in Illinois where it is flat and I have an automatic. Can I just remove the springs from the caliber and fasten up the cable so it is out of the way? I could care less about using the ebrake.
The self adjustment only takes up slack in the cables. To loosen them there is a procedure involving the parking brake handle that has to be done. Check the service manual for the steps involved. Makes it much easier to install new rear pads also.
