This 1987 sat for a long time and the plastic light covers have all gone the foggy route with the exposure to the sun. They will polish up ok, but the backup lights don't have that yellowish cast to them. They actually look black. I've scrubbed them on the outside and even removed them and tried to clean the inside of them. Still have a black look. I then was looking at a lot of pictures and noticed that this seems to be a normal condition of old backup light holders. Is there a different coating inside them? Can they be restored to the new bright look? Just curious.
To take them apart would require spliting them at the seam, which was welded from the factory so its not easy.
When i did mine i cleaned the hell out of them in and out, then polished the outside. I then installed LED lights from superbrightleds.com in them as well as the rear side lights (all the same bulb). Now in reverse all 4 bulbs will light up my driveway. Dont know if thats what your looking to do.
Yes, FostersPerformance, That's what I'm up to. All of my lights are going the LED route with new flashers on the turn and hazard lights. It's just that those backup fixrures look so black and groody.
