Default advice needed

I am looking at a '96 C4 (to buy). I know cars, especially Chevys, but I've never owned a Corvette. This is my favorite body style. It drove fine and I've placed a deposit on it, but can always back out....
What should I be looking for when I inspect this vechicle again, other than the usual (fluids, clutch, general care, etc.)? i.e., are there any specific problem areas on this model that I should be aware of? If it makes a difference, it is a 6-speed coupe. Many thanks.

One problem area on the LT1 cars is the famed opti spark; check the water pump for leakage.

Try the headlights and move the manual ***** to see if they are tight.

Have the wheel bearings checked as they are expensive items.

Put it on a rack and check for fluid leaks.

Inspect for rust on the metal frame members.

Take a CD along to check out the player.

Good luck with your ner Vette.

Also,

Pull the fuel rail covers and look to see if the intake manifold is leaking from the rear or from the front.

Check the weatherstrips around all the windows. It's about $800 to replace them all if you do it yourself.

And as Mr. Mojo would say, check the rear tires and make sure they have little or no tread so you know it was driven properly.

To those of you who replied, either with advice or a 'welcome', many thanks.
It's an LT-4, so no opti-spark, whatever that is (ignition control?).
Fluids look good, with no leaks. (some sludge in overflow, but radiator coolant and engine oil appear to be properly segregated....)
One spot of weatherstripping loose, on hatch corner (I can fix...)
I bought it!!
I am now one of you.
Next question: how do I disable that awful "1 - 4" shift feature??!!

Welcome to the forum!

If you put it on a rack, make sure you do it where they know how to position the car on the rack. If nobody knows, make sure you dind out first. A lot of these cars get bunged up on the bottom because people don't know where to put the pads when they raise them up.

Be sure to always disable your ASR. (The light will indicate when it has been properly disengaged) :steering:

rocco16, we have 2 red clubs.

One for the regular reds is the USS ZAD.

Or, if you have one of the dark red variety, we have the Crimson Armada.

Again, Congrats and enjoy your 96!!

Thanks, 'Machine.
And thank you, Doug. I plan to turn off the traction control and wish I could disable the ABS. (I don't like the car doing the driving for me ... want to disable the CAGS, but can't find a friendly vendor link that can help me).
Other than a "I'll-do-it-MY-way-thankyou" attitude, is there another pertinent reason to disable the traction control??

Larry there are two ways to disable the CAGS, unplug the harness on top of the transmission and tape the connector end so you don't get dirt in it or have it programmed out of the ECM. I had mine progammed out with a custom chip burn but it's a 91. I believe the 96's do not run PROM chips so it has to be programmed out of the ECM. Good luck with your new ride. 84 CF 91 ZR-1
