I noticed someone about a block down had a late C4 Corvette. I was feeling particularly friendly yesterday, so I trekked over there to maybe make a friend or whatever.
A lady answered the door, and said it was hers. I asked her what year it was and she said it was a 97, but it was quite obviously a C4. I asked her about it, how she liked it and such.. she said she knew nothing about it but that she hated it. I agreed that they were somewhat high maintenance, to which she replied she'd sell it for about 10 if someone offered it.
Like I said, it was definitely not a C5 so she really has no idea what year it is. I'm thinking 96.. is there any telltale sign I can use to glance over it and tell what year it really is? She also said she didn't have any papers, so that sucked.
96 cars had the part of the bumper between the front parking light and side marker light painted body color.
96 cars (95, I believe too) had a different panel below the hood/in front of the doors.
If its a 6 speed, 96 cars came with the LT4. Open the hood and see if it has a red intake and "Grandsport" on the throttle body. Just remember, this doesn't make it a GrandSport. :)
You can also run the VIN number on Carfax if you're really interested. Also a 96 will have a "T" as the 10th digit of the VIN.
I appreciate the response. I didn't know the part about the bumper, but I know it had the different panel.
I didn't really wanna say so, but the lady I talked to was pretty hateful so I wouldn't expect her to let me as a stranger open the hood. I'm sure she'll let me if I make her an offer though.
Maybe its an 87 with an updated body, that might fit the $10K price. Maybe she meant to say 87. See my sig for '95 front end and gills
Nah.. it's definitely a late C4. Like I said, she apparently knew nothing at all about it. It looks like Corvette0096's (above) car and has the square exhaust. There's no way it could be mistaken for mine (an 88).
I'm not going to try to rip her off or anything. I'm just trying to find out what year it is since she doesn't know. She was probably going off blue book value for a dealer trade-in since she probably doesn't know about the whole collector's value thing.
I started moving in tonight. I'll be in Carrige View. Look for the black C4 and a big green truck. Say, youre not doing anything this weekend are you?... :blueangel: Heh heh heh. J/K
BTW, you dont know who owns the red late model 92+ C4 at the end do you? Thats a pretty good lookin car too.
