My 91 Vette was totaled 21 Oct 2002, and I have found a White 95 (not ZR1)
this 95 is an auto , and I guess the ignition system is that thing call opti spark, what is opti spark and in 95 is it better then what I have heard? thanks.
Yes...they installed a Vent(vacuum) on the 95 and 96 Vettes. It really helped the problem out alot compared to the earlier models. :yesnod:
I have a 95 still has the same opti-spark on it. The engine has been washed several times over the years....no problem. Knock on wood
Well the 95 Vette has the newer optispark design, which is called "vented" which means, there is a vacuum line connected to it that runs to the intake manifold. What this does is it uses suction from manifold pressure to keep the inside of the optispark dry. Remember call it what you want but all an optispark reall is, is a distributor which is not designed to last the life of the car, just as any distributor. It is just an expensive unit, and is hard to get to. Make sure to ask the sellar when/if he replaced it. Chevy reccommends to replace this every 60,000, mine lasted 82,000 in a non-vented 94. To replace one you must, drain coolant, remove al intake plumbing, remove water pump, remove harmonic balancer, then remove optispark ( line the new one up just right or you will crack the casing when you bolt it down. At least there's no timing adjustment involved. Good luck. :D
Don't pass on a good '95 due to the opti spark. Granted, it a weak link, but '95's were upgraded to the highest build quality of C4's according to the factory and there are lots of good things about an LT1. Nobody would complain about the opti if it was on the top of the engine and could be replaced easily. Instead, it's buried under the water pump and cost a lot of $$ to replace.
I have had no problems so far on my 95(knock on wood),and I love
the build quality. The 95 rated highest of all the C4's for best build quality.
When you get the car let us know and we will help you spend some more
money on modifications.Believe me,this is very addictive.

I've washed my engine a few times with no problems. The whole OptiSpark fiasco is blown out of proportion, 95s are great cars.

I agree with Drew on the OptiSpark being blown out of proportion. I had 2 - 93 LT1's, I put 77,000 on my coupe and 62,000 on my roadster before selling them and washed the engine's with no problems. The coupe now has over 98,000 miles and still has not had the OPti replaced. Not sure how much the Vert has on it now, but as far as I know no OptiSpark problems either. So I would think you are pretty safe with a '95.
Have yet to have a problem with my optispark.. When I first got my vette 4 years ago, I had not found the CF therefore, I didn't know any better. I washed and scrubbed started it up and drove away many times. Then! One day, I found CF, and they told me that it was wrong to do what I've been doing for months... :bs 95~96 optis will hold up just fine! I do suggest that you don't powerwash in that area though..
