Hey guys, I just removed the rear bumper cover on my 1987 Vert and I'm seeing 2 things that I can't explain. With that said, everything on the car works (except for the power antenna...havent investigated that yet) so I'm lost as to what these 2 things could be.
I thought one cable might be a damaged antenna cable but I don't think so...the antenna cable currently runs through the grommet in the body, on the left side behind the drivers area (like convertibles do). it's a 2-wire cable with a shielded core)
The other is a harness with a blue and black wire...I dont see anything that mates it. Possible that it's a harness shared with a coupe and it's for the hatch or 3rd light???
This is the current antenna...the wires all go through the grommet in the body, so I'm assuming that they dont wrap around and go to the passanger side...
I think my hunch about the harness was correct regarding the 3rd light...my car came with an aftermarket Zr1 replica bumper (late model style rear) and the extra notch-back i have doesnt have a 3rd light on it...Guess I'm learning a little every day about my first L98 car.
I'd put a test light on it and hit the brakes, see if it lights up. But sounds like that's what it is.
You also have the spare tire light also, but if I recall, those wires go straight to a bulb socket. Same with license plate light.

Oh, thanks, I learned something today!!! the Spare Tire Light...so that's the light socket mounted in the bumper reinforcement
Now I'm curious, what triggers that light to come on?
The "Antenna" cable appears to be just that...Bubba's attempt at bypassing the factory antenna??? with that said, Bubba used a rubber grommet, Impressive!
A possibility for the "Bubba" coax and connections could be for an application other than the radio. Like a cell phone or perhaps CB antenna? Back in the day, hard mount mobile phones were the norm. I recall seeing a number of cell phone antennas mounted on the gas door on convertibles.
Spare tire light is on any time the forward courtesy lights are on.
You might be on to something...it leads right back to the center of the rear...the grommet was a nice touch though, may it was a pro-install and not Bubba (sorry Bubba)
