Gonna' watch this thread. Car I just bought has one, and headers, cat delete, and Corsa exhaust.

I have an early one before SLP bought it. It was called a K&N triple. Same thing except a gloss paint.

I like it. There is some minimal improvement in air flow, but in practice there is very little performance improvement. I like it because you can clean and re-oil the filters and it looks good.

I do not hear any difference between this and stock, but I also have loud exhaust, so I might not notice.

If you were looking for a bang for the buck modification, this is not worth the money.

There were two, the early ones are a cold air intake with a hole in front of the radiator. I have it, makes a cool sucking sound, does little for performance.

The later cars with slanted radiators have a 3-cone K&N, its not a true CAI, also makes a cool sucking sound and does little for performance.

I made a custom intake similar in design but with one large oval filter vs the 3 little ones. I also used silicone and abs vs metal.to reduce heat soak. It cost a lot less than the SLP, and even if they were the same price, mine is superior due to its material, so I'd still use my custom one over the SLP.

You won't really gain much in performance or economy with one of these intakes. Being able to clean the filter is a nice perk though.

I've got the SLP tri-claw on my 88'. I like the way it looks and also with my engine putting out more than double the original power the L98 did I suspect the stock early air filter box especially where it necks down would have been a restriction (in my case). I wouldn't call it a 'cold air Intake' but if you look on the last picture you will note I opened up the shroud to allow cold air to be directed Into the space the filter occupies, no idea I'd it helps, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

Can you please detail how you modded things to fit the tri claw SLP intake on the earlier straight vertical radiator setup!?

Thank you!

Sure, so the mounting points are different, so the mounting tabs were cut off and new mounting tabs welded on in the correct location. Easy since the intake is steel. Then I re-powder coated it myself.

I used a 94-96 corvette 'belows' to adapted it to a custom made IAT tube, then a C6 corvette belows to connect to my throttle body (my engine is an LS).

At that point you can close the hood and drive but after a few hundred miles I noticed a little rub mark on the fiberglass support on the underside of the hood. The support is made of very thin fiberglass to when I attempted to 'clearance it, it just made a hole. So I remove that little support above the intake, then repainted the underside of the hood.

All in all not too hard.
