So I have a 1992 coupe, when I purchased the car it still had the original exhaust set up. First thing I did was have the stock mufflers replaced with Flow Master Super 10's. Although it sounds better, it really isn't that loud at all. I really thought the 10's would be louder. I'm not looking for it to be obnoxiously loud but I'd like more growl and sound from the exhaust when you hear it from outside the car. I'm also trying to avoid the dreaded droning at low or higher RPMs. etc..
Question is, should try removing the resonator or will that even make a difference. If I did, should I replace it with a X pipe or H pipe or just straight pipe? Will this increase the exhaust sound any? Any negatives to be thinking about?
My 95 Lt1 has Super 10s, no resonators and factory cats. It sounds Great(other club members have commented) it does drone, though, it is livable. I put 1" rigid foam board insulation on the floor of the rear compartment, and behind both seats & covered with nice carpet, and it did drop both the drone & road noise sound level. From approx 85 to 86Db. to about 78 or 79Db. This winter im going to lengthen my exhaust tips. They presently are flush with the back bumper, im going to start maybe an inch back. We will see if that helps.
On our 96 we have muffler eliminators. The rest of the exhaust is stock. Semi quiet idle, nice growl when you get on it, no droan. Fairly cheap. Perfect
So from your cats to the10’s u just have straight pipe?
Yes, factory cats, and seperate tru duals into super 10s. I had also thought about putting an x pipe on it, but that mat be a future thing. I'll see if I can take a video of my system.
That’s exactly what I have, except my resonator is still between the cats and the 10’s. Are you’re flowmasters mounted right behind the exhaust tips?
I’m thinking X-pipe in place of the resonator. Any input on pro versus con of x-pipe versus straight pipe? Why even do x-pipe is the question, is it sound related, any negative or positives on performance, any real measurable change to output flow at the tips?
Plus I’d like to visit the muffler shop once and pay once. I hate to have the resonator removed and piped then not like it, then add x-pipe second time and not like that either, then have my resonator put back on the third time! 😆
