Three years ago, I had to have the transmission rebuilt in my 1987 Vette Convertible. The problem was, the oil cooler in the radiator was stopped up. I installed a new radiator. My car wasn’t driven very much, stored all winter but started every two weeks, not driven. It hasn’t been driven more than 1500 miles since rebuild. Now, it is slipping when it downshifts from Drive to 3rd. Since it has been parked the majority of the time, I wonder if this could have caused the slipping. A mechanic told me that some of the cheaper filters were made of cardboard and if the vehicle sits for a long time, the filter “corrodes” and causes problems. Any suggestions before I have it rebuilt again?

More information required. What do you mean by "sliipping when it downshifts from drive to 3rd."? A forced downshift or a coasting downshift? Describe the symptoms in more detail. Highly unlikely the filter is having any effect on what you describe. It is immersed in oil whether it is sitting or moving.
Check the the TV cable adjustment. There’s only a little tolerance for variance on this adjustment. It’s really important for that era transmission to have that adjustment correct.
When the trans shifts from fourth to third, it starts slipping in third gear. It doesn’t slip, or not as bad it seems, when shifting manually from first. Fluid is red, bright and has no smell. I probably haven’t driven it 1,500 miles since rebuild.
