A guy I knew bought one of the first C4s, in that very pretty two tone metallic blue. I had let him drive my 280ZX a while before and to my surprise he tossed me the keys. I absolutely loved it, it squeaked and rattled a bit but compared to my brother's 911 it was like driving a GTP prototype, low and stiff and plenty quick. Later I tried to order an '85 but the local dealer wouldn't deal so I wound up with a 911 Carrera.

For such a crappy car GM had no trouble selling every one they built.

I was also pissed when I saw it. I saw the title, rolled my eyes, and kept scrolling. No I don’t own an 84 and am honestly not impressed with the crossfire in stock configuration… but the 84 model year vette was light years ahead of everything back then and was and is an amazing car. I’d own one in a heartbeat and praise anyone who does. Without actually reading the article, I’ll let the author slide a bit because I don’t think the article’s main purpose of showing what can be done to address some of the typical issues really matches the title. Title is in poor taste.

Eh. Most of the "showing" was restating the obvious. I just roll my eyes about the various, grossly inaccurate CFM claims. Ridiculous.

I will give Bozo the Clown the recognition for at least stating that all u need to do is port the manifold. im sure he just regurgitated that.

but overall i would give that author, and frankly the internet brands editor that allowed it to be published a hard thumbsdown.

though i see some people smashed the like button. we are all entitled to our own opinion!

C4 Steck, "light years ahead of everything back then". Are you kidding me. They were a DECADE behind the Japanese and Germans with fuel injection. What exactly were they light years ahead of?

Some people like to pretend they know what they’re talking about and for those of us that actually work on cars it’s painfully obvious. The clown who wrote the article doesn’t know what he’s talking about, he’s repeating things he read, zero first hand knowledge.
We have members that do the same thing and that’s why they never learn anything they’re too busy pretending they already know…

Anything else that was on the track in their class. Hence the ban from SCCA when Porsche (with their superior fuel injection) hadn’t won a race in 2 seasons. Maybe behind in fuel injection? Sure. Aerodynamics, suspension, handling, and braking, on par or better than cars 3x the price. TPI the following year. Aluminum heads the next. All complete with all the goodies that made it a true grand touring sports car. Made in USA.

1975 Datsun 280z's were full injected, multi port with mass air flow sensors. Porsche 914's were injected too. Did someone say performance. 200hp out of V8 in a vette, please. 6 cylinder foreign cars were pulling that back in the early 80's.
I know you guys love vettes, I own a few too but realize that GM was asleep for a decade in the 70's which effected early 80's cars too.

p.s. I do think the C4 is one of the best looking vettes ever made.

Corvette did not compete with the Datsun in a racing series, But it did kick the Porsche's *** enough that they banned the C4 Corvette from their series

Ever heard of transam and Paul Newman or BRE racing. 280's kicked vettes tail.

with a whopping 150 lb ft of torque. America might have been behind in the realm of fuel injection but when they sold 51,000 units in 1979 GM was definitely not asleep. I appreciate all the Datsuns and Porsches with their injection technology but you can’t argue that the 84 model year vette was way ahead of it’s time. Which is what they were going for with the instrument panel, like it or not. It was a futuristic car in present day despite its throttle bodies.

Bosch had their Jetronic fuel injection system which came out in the late 60s. Was used by Mercedes, Porsche, VW, Datsun/Nissan, and Toyota.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jetronic

Wasn't tunable like modern MAF/MAP based systems, but for what it was/is, it works quite well.

I will say the 84 Corvette had some cool features. I like the fact it had sealed wheel hubs/bearings. No need to change out bearings/bearing races, then grease everything up, check drag, etc. Just remove and replace.

But most vehicles sucked in 84. Nothing was all that impressive from a performance perspective, outside of high dollar exotics.

The more you post the worse it gets. Chrome bumper C3 😂 What is in the first picture ?? Looks like a C1 a car designed in the 1940s heavily modified decades later racing a Datsun lol That proves what exactly ?

Frankly surprised at how much credence you guys are giving to the article by going apeshit over it, it's one man's opinion.

Many have very differing views from yours, sit back, drink a beer and get over it lol. The author has you arguing amongst yourselves lol.

I actually have never read the article but have owned almost every corvette except the 53 and the C8, worked at a corvette business and can tell you that out of all of them the early C4's are turkeys. Some C3's were turkeys but the government mandates made them that way.
