1 = Chevrolet

G = 1986

5 = BGR

117912 = Sequence

That information should also be on the left frame rail in the vicinity of the battery.

That's considered a VIN 'derivative'. If the engine is original to the car G5117912 should be in the windshield and also on the drivers door 'Certification Label' as the last eight of the VIN.

If the first digit would have been 2 - it would have been Pontiac but since there weren't Pontiacs built in BGR we know it's Corvette for 1986.

the reason I’m digging into this is the car has been rebuilt and the dash looks newer than 86 and when I’ve been looking up gasket kits for this engine the 86 kits have the valve cover gaskets bolt holes in the 4 corners and mine has the running through the middle, I just want to make sure I get the correct parts so I can get her running again g

The 1986 late production did NOT have perimeter valve cover retention.

The block for sure is 1986 but maybe there's other aspects of it that could be 'other than'.

The dash is '90+. Your ECM should be under the hood above/vicinity of battery?

**** On the left frame rail in the vicinity of the battery there should be a VIN Derivative for the car.

**** 1L5xxxxxx woud be a '90 Corvette, 1N5xxxxxx would be a '91 Corvette. That information should match the windshield and also the drivers door 'Certification Label'.

***** Part # of of the fuel rails could ID other parts and the EGR if present should have a number on it.

Boy, someone went to a hell of a lot of work to transplant a 2nd gen interior into an 86. You could have later model heads that were put on when the engine was built.

You have the car titled as what? Do you have the title? The year of the chassis could be determined from the appearance of the upper control arms. The flats on an early '84 - '87 are horizontal (parallel to ground) and the later control arms are (vertical).

in Alabama any car over 35 years old doesn’t need a title, the vin says it’s an 86 but some did a lot of work to it at so

So those are later '88+ control arms so the chassis is newer than '86, The A/C compressor is a 'denso and they weren't used in 1986 either.
