I just purchased A 1994 With An LT1. It was not running when I bought it. After looking at the wiring I found the Idle air control valve wire was reversed with the coil control module. It wasn't running very well at all. What I found was the intake valve push rod on number 3 cylinder was off the lifter and sitting in the valley. I was able to reach it and reassemble the rocker. What could have caused this to Happen? The rocker adjusting nut was not backed off enough to allow this to happen. I would love some InSite on this..
Was there evidence someone had the engine apart at some point? Cant trust bubba...
Also, if that pushrod was bent that could give it enough slack to fall out. But should have been obvious if it was bent that bad...post pics up so everyone can take a look.
You will drive yourself insane trying to figure out what a PO was thinking when they obviously had no clue what they were doing. Just redo it correctly and hope they didn't wipe out a cam lobe or bearing.
I'm new to posting on blogs. I don't know how to make the picture smaller. This is what I seen when the valve cover was removed. I been into a lot of engines of all types. This is the first time I've seen this. I have seen a little talk of on here about a collapsed lifter. Is this something I may have to deal with? How would I know if that is the problem?
Top of that valve dosent look good...maybe its the pic.
Top of the stem looks rounded off to me. Looks like it was run quite loose for awhile until it got so loose that rocker slide off to the side. It's sure possible that a stuck lifter could have caused this.
Your right. I had not noticed that. I am glad you pointed that out. I looked at the mating surface of the rocker arm and it is a little chewed up also.
Are they screw in studs on that engine, or pressed in? IF they are pressed in ive seen a few work their way up, causing the rocker arm to be loose and eventually fail or loose a push rod. Either way though if that valve is damaged heads have to come off (no sense pulling just 1 side).
