Hi everyone - Ive googled, youtubed, and searched this forum and i cant find an exact answer to my issue:
Service Engine Soon is on. When i put a paper clip in 4/12 to pull codes, i am only able to view modules 1, 9, and “A”. The only codes are module 1. H71 and H72 - which wouldnt seem to be related to the engine or SES to my understanding.
Questions:
1. am i incorrect, and my SES in on because of H71/H72 (which i am guessing are related to the stereo work im doing)?
2. Why do i only get modules 1,9, and “A” instead of 4? what even is “A”?
As your car is OBD2 you could take it to any local parts store and have them pull codes. Most of them will do it for free as they would like to sell you some parts. I would think that if whatever is going on is setting the SES light it would be something relating to emissions or some other engine performance issue.
A is Supplemental Inflatable Restraint System. The Air Bags.
I've wondered if the CCM could query the OBD II PCM in 1996. It doesn't look like it can if there is no Module 4.
H71 and H72 are lighting codes, probably with your stereo work. Module 1 codes don't illuminate on the Check Engine light. If there is a Current code in Module 1, the SYS message will flash 3 times every 10-ish seconds. Module 1 H codes don't flash the SYS message.
A '96 FSM indicates that Module 4 'should be available'
