Default Help with possible purchase

Hi to all

I have a neighbor who is looking at a c4 to purchase.

I have a lot of general auto experience and own a C8 but am not familiar with the C4.

Car is a 1984. 107k miles. Looks to be in good shape in and out for starters.
He is asking 10k.

Wondering if some of you might chime in and help me with a few questions.

Is this price in the ballpark?
What issues might we run into with this vintage and are parts somewhat available for the common stuff?
I know this is pretty vague but any thoughts or feedback would be helpful.

Thanks to all as usual.

1984 has the Crossfire injection motor. Also known as the "Missfire injection motor". It's the only year of C4 with it and is one of the worst engines ever put in a Corvette. Definitely the worst C4 engine you can get.
Also the 1984 was built on a track and rides like you are driving on a big ol washboard. That was fixed the next year in 1895.

$10k for 107k mi 1984 seems steep to me but C4 prices are crazy right now. I personally wouldn't pay a dollar over $5k for any 1984 but some people like them and have had zero issues with them. There is a 1984 that looks super clean near me (at a dealer) with 50k miles and they are asking $10k. This place has horrible reviews and I almost bought from them once but they definitely overprice everything. (Like they have a 1985 also they are trying to sell for $20,000 with 60k miles on it. That's insane).

Anyways. Unless they are good with a bumpy ride and understand that engine is not typically a very good one they will have fun with it. Though for that price I know you could find a better year and even a bit less miles.

That price is double what it should be.
I would avoid 1984.
I bought an 88 with 92k for $6,500 recently. That was his asking price. I thought that was fair and the car had 4 new tires, new battery and new cat back exhaust. It's in really great condition.

For reference, I bought my '90 for $8k with 69k miles on the clock. One exterior light didn't work and needs seals. Other than that, it's solid. Hit him with $6500-7k and see what he says. Nothing worse than overpaying for a car that you'll have to dump a bunch of "Corvette tax" money into.

Typical "I know what it's worth" price and no amount of discussion is going to change their mind.

I wouldn't consider an 84 when GM sold 51,547, the highest production of the entire C4 run. Prices for 84s should be less than other years because of the number sold. Every year there were lots of improvements, In 87 they went to a roller cam. When I was shopping, 87 was the oldest I would consider because of the cam.

Yup, as everyone else has said, walk away, too much for a 1984 especially with 107k on the clock!
