Default LT1 fuel pump sock orientation

My 1993 has the factory rectangular tray in the fuel tank (to help prevent fuel starvation)

how is the (rectangular) factory fuel pump sock supposed to be oriented in this bucket?

sideways?
or front to rear?

Yeah i cant figure out why i have so much fuel starvation issues below 10 gallons on cornering on my 1993

this is with my dual rxp340 setup

i didnt have this problem with my old walbro 455 l/hr setup (as well as the stock pump)

Doesnt matter which ‘hanger’ i put the dual rxp340 pumps onto… still same fuel starvation problem

Also tried setting the top pump as primary pump, and it made problem worse

Perhaps you should consider a surge tank setup

Try one of these:
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-16-111
Expensive, it just fits but it works great.

a couple problems with that

1. Its only 15” long. It might fill up a small fuel cell perfectly, but our fuel tanks are considerably wider than that.

someone correct me if im wrong, but i would assume it would need to span one side of the tank to the other to be effective

2. The inlet to my rxp 340 fuel pump is 22mm
Holley doenst seem to make any Hydramat that fits pumps with that size inlet

is there an adapter i can use?

3. I would have to rip out the plastic bucket in the fuel tank. I get worried doing so would rip the liner in the fuel tank

one guy claims he did it and it didnt seem to damage the liner

if i can get around those issues, i may try one

I have been using the Holley Hydramat since 2019 and I have had no issues.
My gas tank is the stock 1996 and I left my plastic sump in place. I installed the Hydramat so it was lying on/into the plastic (forward to back).
I have not driven on any road courses with my car but I do occasionally autocross and drag race it. I have made some sharp left and right turns with a 1/4 tank or less of fuel and my car never had fuel starvation since the installation in 2019. Before that it always starved for fuel in turns with low fuel levels.
The idea behind the Hydramat is that it is like a sponge that picks up the fuel when submerged and when uncovered it can still supply fuel for a while. I don't know much about the fuel pump you are using so I can't make any comments about your installation.
But I am using a DeatschWerks DW200 pump flowing much less than your setup.

ok, so you just laid it (fore-aft) in the plastic sump bucket?

if the problem is during cornering, i think you would want it transversely mounted?

what about the DW200 pump inlet? Is it 22mm?

if so, how did you adapt it?

lastly, what size hydramat did you use?

- no need to install it transversely as it acts like a sponge, so for and aft works. It will only get uncovered from fuel for maybe a second or so. The Hydramat has enough absorption to supply fuel for that period of time.
-The DW200 pump inlet is a stock diameter and even though the Hydramat HLY-16-111 fits the stock fuel pump inlet I did have to adjust/bend the sender bracket to make it fit in place of the stock type sock.

-The DW200 has an 11mm inlet which matches the Hydramat. But the sending unit bracket got tweaked by me to retain the plastic mount on the Hydramat. I didn't want the Hydramat to just stay on by friction because the bracket does not allow it to sit properly. So I bent the bracket opening to retain the Hydramat.
This is hard to explain and I didn't take any pictures at the time. But anything you can do to keep the Hydramat from being dislodged from the inlet of the pump will work.
-The part number above is what I used. I had to fold the Hydramat carefully to install it into the tank, once it is in the tank it unfolds by itself. It is pretty resilient, you don't want to cut it but it is very strong and durable.
Note, I don't have any affiliation with Holley and I am in no way trying to push the product. I am impressed by the way it works and how it solved my fuel starvation problem when my car gets to a quarter tank or less.
The way it works is pretty cool. Check out some of the YouTube videos on it.
