Default Water Temperature

On a warm to hot day, my temperature gauge is constantly close to the max even with the AC/fans on while on the surface streets. .Freeway driving will cool it slightly. Is this normal? I know at one time my fuse blew that controls the fan that comes on automatically but even when replaced, the temp is still high. In everyday driving what does your temp gauge read?

Thanks,
Ron

I have 1985 and 1988 stock L98's and they cycle 210-228 F at idle (fan on at 228 off at 210). Freeway driving with A/C it runs around 200-205 on a hot (mid 90's) day..... My 85 used to run hotter (210+) on hot day freeway driving until I removed the radiator and cleaned 35+ years of debris from the radiator..... I don't know how LT-1 or LT-5 engines run.
