Antenna replacement
Anyone hear of or do business with ebay seller dickenss. He has had many replacement antenna masts on ebay for $20. My mast goes down but stops and stays up about an inch. I can push it down with my thumb, but recently that hasn't always worked. So I guess it is time to get a replacement. Any recommendations? Thanks. Perry :seeya
If you haven't tried cleaning the mast already, do so with alcohol, and then rub some super silicon lubricant on the mast. If you have tried this, just direct this response to the trash.
Had the same problem lwith my Cr last month. Purchased a new mast and ribbon from ZIP here on the forum. I think it was about $23.00. Got some good advise from members and the tech section of the forum. Suggest if you decide to attempt to replace the mast yourself, lift the rear of the car, place on stands and go through the rear tire well. Instructions are included with the new mast. Not very difficult, just hard to get your arm into the well to take the nut off that holds the antenna in place. Make certain to take the gear cover off and remove the broken pieces of the old ribbon. I have a 88 C4 and the gear cover is held on with screws. I was told later models have the cover pressed on and you have to pry it off. It only takes one person to take the antenna out buy you will need a helper to install the ribbon back in the gear housing. Good Luck.
Easy job but when you drop the new one in you need to stand outside and guide the ribbon in when your partner turns off the radio.
My old ribbon was in the shaft not the motor. I pulled the motor cleaned it and put it together and it still would not go down. I ended up pushing a hanger down the tube to see what the hold up was. Pulled out a 4" section of the old mast ribbon.
Get one from any of the vendors. Skip Ebay. They all charge $20. I got mine from MAD. Takes 10 minutes to replace. http://www.madirect.com has a printout of how. You don't need to remove the antenna or disassemble the motor area. Just one bolt at the top where the mast pops out gets unscrewed. Then the whole assembly will pop out. Then put the new one in. If its not bent, probably only needs cleaning with alcohol.

Re: Antenna replacement (OURRUBY)
Last spring I put a Hirschman antenna in. Cost me about $40 on ebay. The coaxial ends didn't match but I got an adaptor and everything went okay. Took me about 3 hours start to finish (I work real slow), learned tons about my car from that job. You can get one at NAPA or just about any auto parts store around.

Re: Antenna replacement (OURRUBY)
Thanks all for your replies. I guess I'll stick with one of the supporting vendors and get the replacement. Sure am glad I'm retired, as working on my car and my son's (vetteweiser) is taking up a lot of time, but I am also learning a lot. :seeya
