Im curious, for the facelifted ones is it just a simple push in to pop the lens out of the bumper cutout or is there something more specific to do? I don't have my Vette with me atm to test it out.
OP can't edit the 'Thread Title' once published and I image a spell checker/corrector is responsible for the 'Break' NOT 'BRAKE'
My mom was a stickler for spelling. One day I noticed a cardboard sleeve in her glove compartment containing a small incandescent lamp. It was labeled "breaklight" in what was clearly her handwriting. I broke her chops endlessly about whether that was a description or an instruction.
Thanks to her I'm slightly better at spelling now, but still far from perfect.
It's all intended in fun. For both mom and the OP.
The CHMSL (Is it still "High Mounted" when it is at the same level at the regular brake lights?) in the bumper is accessed through the (removed) license plate opening.
The 86-88 convertible has three bulbs. You have to remove the light housing to access the bulbs. The 2 retaining nuts are on the back side, at the sides.
The 89-up bumper version has a single 1156 bulb. The socket has a locking tab, but can be removed with the housing in place. Again, through the license opening.
Interesting! Thanks for the info, sometimes i am a bit jealous of the ZR-1/pre-facelfit owners for having that cool little wedge sticking out.

The one part that was a carry over and the only pat of the car I can't stand. OP,if the lights aren't working check the switch,it has a seperate circuit for the 3rd brake light.
The center high mount stop light simply bolts to the hatch hinge frame from underneath. Remove the fastners and pull the assembly upwards, exposing the bulbs. You will just replace the bulb or bulbs thay have failed.
