My 89 was vandalized outside my house last night they tore out the steteo broke down the kickpanel and tore a couple tods out. The shifter can move without the key in now and i cant start it. Thid one rod was laying on the floor and its all bent. One rod is pulled out from inside yhe column and if I pull it the dash lights up but cant get it to do anytbing else and I dont know how it goes back in the column.
I found out I can start the car with the key in by oulling on the rod they pulled out of the column but I cant turn the steering wheel if I can get a way to be able to turn it I can at least drive it to hve it fixed somewhere

Depending upon what was done with the actual ignition switch, the lock pin might be jammed and not allowing the steering wheel to turn. Remove the steering wheel and pull out the lock cam.
I sent you a PM with some hints. I don't want to post any tips showing how to steal a car on the open board.
It is hard to tell, but it looks like VATS is still active? Ie, not "bypassed". If so, VATS saved your car from being driven away.
It sure did glad it wasn't bypassed. The part the rod attaches to was bent out I guess they did it to free the rod up and it couldn't slide back up into the column housing I straightened it a little and now the key will turn. I just need to find out how to reconnect the rod to it. Part #3.
