is there a way for the normal lights to stay on when you turn on the brights?
i think that if both the normal and brights were on, it would be much brighter.
i have the silverstars. does anyone know a bit about changing it so the normal headlights wont go off when the high's are turned on? or would this need to be configured through the computer?
i think your headlights would get real hot real quick if you drove around like this........first thing i would do if i was gonna attempt this would be to make sure the stock wiring can handle it.
I think what the problem will be is not so much heat from the wires, although this could be an issue, but rather heat in the bulb. It was probably never meant to burn both elements at the same time and it might get hot enough to explode.
Now a lot of vehicles have an individual bulb for high and low beam in which case you can easily do what you are talking about provided the wiring will handle it.
Now if you want to do it anyway it shouldn't be too terribly complicated. Unplug your lights and turn the headlight switch on. The connector will have 3 pins, one ground, one hot for low beam, one hot for high beam. Figure out which one is which with a volt meter. Then all you have to do is use a relay and a 12v source to turn on the low beams as well whenever the highs are on.
I can't say that I would recommend doing this but it wouldn't be hard to wire up.

Re: Headlight mod (Nathan Plemons)
Nathan is right, a relay can be rigged up easily to do it. I got a cheap relay device to do just this very thing on my Van from, of all places, JCWhitney.
I also run all my headlights through relays on my Scirocco. It has 90w low/100w high H4 bulbs and I run both high and low at once on high beam. No problem so far, but living in the San Diego area, I'm not able to run on high for more than 3 or 4 minutes at a time. Any longer than that and heat COULD become a problem.
I wouldn't worry about the stock wiring, you're not running both through one wire....just make sure your connections are clean, clean, clean if you are going to higher-than-stock wattage bulbs.
I helped a buddy wire the lights on his Maverick to do this. His car had a custom dash, so there was a seperate rocker switches for low beams and high beams. He had old style halogen sealed beams with 55 watt lows and 60 watt highs. We ran from So Cal to Texas through the dead of night with both filaments running and never had a problem.
