I am new to the C4 world and I am looking to get some advice! I've looked at a couple of C4s at this point and the one (1992) I am most interested in is unfortunately having AC issues. The current owner states that the AC worked when he charged it last year while he was troubleshooting the issue himself. He thinks that the compressor has a leak on a seal.
If that is the case, what are my options? Purchase a new AC compressor and have it installed?
I just want to make sure I understand what I am getting myself into.

Thank you in advance for any advice.
The guy sounds like he is just taking a WAG about the leak location. Could be anywhere. If you don't have the skills and the tools to locate the leak, then you are forced to take it to an AC shop. Several methods of finding the leak. Fill with nitrogen and bubble test - put UV dye in the system and find with light - electronic leak detector - visually check hoses and components for signs of oil..
(ref 92 model year) -- if it hasn't been converted to R134, then you're running old R12 freon. now you have three options - troubleshoot, repair, and seek out EXPENSIVE R12, convert to R134, or trouble shoot a R134 conversion. either way, you are looking at spending some money on the AC system. it could be a $100 repair, or a $1000 repair. before we can go any farther, which freon type is in the 92? personally, i wouldn't let that be a showstopper on an otherwise clean 92 - negotiate the repair cost (worst case) into the buying price.
