Driving north on I-75 from Cocoa. FL with my 1996 C4 CE, my AT started to "slip" for a word. At then 70MPH my oil and coolant temp went up. I smelled burned oil odor. My engine check light came on and so did the ASR. It stated it was turned off but showed "ASR" in red alert code. I slowed down to 60 MPH and temps dropped. Back up to 70 MPH. This temp rise and power loss in MPH happened a couple of more times. So bad 30 miles to Cinci, I saw a Chevrolet dealer to my right and wound around a few blocks to get into his open reception garage. The only person that could help me said all mechanics are gone till Monday. He saw neither fan was running, and I told him I tried to keep coolant cool, I had my heater on at 80dF. Full fan speed. He checked AT fluid, and it was up to the hot-full level. I turned engine off as by that time the coolant was on his super clean floor. I thank him for his help and drove off across the street to fuel. As I left, my engine still with high pegged reading and oil up in temp also, my Engine light and ASR were in compliance. Once up to 60 MPH all ran well so I keep my speed under 70 MPH. Driving through Detroit North and close to home Oxford, I linked up with a C7 and a C8, and we hit 80-85 MPH when open spaced prevailed. now with 1,200 miles since 1700 start the day before, I gassed up again at Costco 8 miles from home, and the vehicle seemed to run excellent, except my AC died somewhere in the process and all three of my relays need to be checked to find out why neither fan is operational. Then after an all-night cool down after an all day 1240 miler, it started but the AT would not shift out of first or second. Close to 3,000 RPM at 20-30 MPH. Returned home and called my C4 son with four (4) C4s. He said to manually shift each gear and see if it upshifts. It does. Now I await what he recommends. Any assistance taken. Roc out !
When airplanes crash it is usually not just one thing but 2 or 3 or 4 things all at once. I think you have 4 or 5 problems all at once. Your best bet here is to attack one problem at a time. You pick. Dan
