Hi Guys. Hope somebody can help. I need to replace an inner tie rod end on my ‘86 C4 (early - cast iron heads). I purchased the appropriate part which was appropriately sized except it has a female end on it. Unfortunately, it turns out my worn part has a male end. I don’t know the history of the car as to whether the steering rack has been replaced. I noted that ‘93 models use a male end, but on acquiring one, discovered that while it proved to be otherwise OK… it’s too long! I’d really appreciate any advice as to what inner tie rod will fit my particular circumstances. Thanks.

What brand and part number did you buy? From what vendor?
First I'll assume was maybe just mis-boxed and you should have just had the vendor replace it.
Where did you purchase the last one('93), brand and part number?
Thanks for the quick reply. The part designated by Rock Auto for my car (right size but female end) was supplied by them as Part # MEVOTECH GEV124 (8708.94.5274), Corvette Central also confirmed their part is the same configuration which is unsuitable for my particular car. The alternative part I acquired that is designated for ‘93-‘96 C4 models (male end but too long) part is Zip Products Part #ZSU-967. Sorry I can’t provide brand for this one as I won’t be home until Sunday.
All '84 - '87 would use this inner tie rod according to all GM SPO Parts Cataloging. The inner to the rack would be female threaded.
Here is a link to a NOS that would be considered correct for '87 and earlier. You say where this is female threaded to the rack your rod has male threads?
Post a snapshot of yours when you get home. You might call https://turnonesteering.com/ and ask if the threaded end of the actual rack might be removeable from the rack and when you unthreaded yours it just came out with it. It's certainly a new situation.
