Facebook C4 Groups
Generally speaking I don't like Facebook. I joined to enable use of Facebook Marketplace which has definitely surpassed Craiglist. I even recently purchased my 96 LT4 on Marketplace. Although I do not post anything social on Facebook, I have joined several C4 groups. Surprising to me is that there is a lot more activity on these groups than the C4 Forum. I find this the opposite for the C3 and C8 forums. Not sure why. I also have the impression that the overall expertise/knowledge on the Forum is greater than the facebook groups, which will probably result in my abandoning the Facebook groups at some point.
I'm on a bunch of the C4 groups on Facebook and it seems like they're full of scammers trying to sell parts. I find that I spend more time on this forum than Facebook because this is just an all around better place to be.
agreed, the wisdom of experience is here. there's at least 5 C4 facebook sites i've found, couple split off from another cuz some people on those sites apparently forget we're here for the love of the C4 Corvette and nothing else. i belong to a fbook site that caters to 100 years+ old Harleys that brings together a worldwide community of fellows devoted to keeping their bikes running down the road, most all members over 40, so maybe age has something to do with participation. Fbook, i find it necessary to use some discernment when reading what i'm trying to learn.
I got on fakebook also to be able to sell stuff. I have no pictures of myself. I don't even use my real name. I joined some groups including some c4 ones. Based on research it said join some groups so they don't think you have a fake account. The knowledge I see on their on the c4 groups is like going to any of the big chain auto parts stores and asking for advice.
There are several of us on Facebook from these forums. ANY of the "JoeSchmoe's Corvette Parts for Sale" are scams, period. I report every single one of them. I've noticed a couple of C4 groups are nothing but spam bots with completely generic posts "show your ride," "what color is your Vette," etc... drives me nuts. Then the responses of wanting to build you a die cast or a make a cartoon of your car. Good grief. It's never-ending, but there are some good ones for sure. Strictly C4, C4 1984-1996, LT4 Registry, ZR-1 Net Registry, are a few of the better legitimate ones with a good amount of knowledge. I couldn't help joining the Yellow Corvette group (see signature). Although public, it seems to be decently moderated.
Agree though, that the timeless wisdom is summarized here and on the ZR-1 Registry through a lot more history than you'll find on Facebook.
I'm in two of the C4 groups on FB. As others have mentioned, not too much in the way of serious content there. I find the Forum to be much more informative. In fact, in some instances on FB when someone is asking how to fix something, I'll comment a link to a thread on here because people will just start arguing about something else in the comments, not answering the question.
The FB groups are certainly getting overrun with spam and scammers as of recent though.
I'll also add, when doing my clutch and flywheel last year, converting to SMF, this forum and the F-Body forum totally saved me. There's no way I would have got the info I did from the FB group unfortunately.

At first the C4 Modified group was a breath of fresh air, it was a small group of C4 guys and quite entertaining.
But eventually the person who began the group just let in anyone, as his measure of success was how many members in the group.
Eventually all the keyboard warriors and dingbats got in there and it started to turn into a **** fight.
Then the total lack of vetting meant the scammers got in and started trying to rip everyone off, or sell t shirts.
So a breakaway C4 Modified group was formed (with same exact name !) - but it too eventually fell to exactly the same nonsense.
The original C4 group has 2,700 members and its lucky to have 1 post a month.
The second C4 group has 7, 300 members and has maybe 1 or 2 posts a day.
I am one of the admin in the group with 7000 members. We try and keep the spam posting out. I went through this morning and cleaned up the group and removed a bunch of spammers. Hoping it will help.
