I don't know that you could consider 'plug & play' but the components should all work. The radio head is the same.

I had a 89, and the radio was the first thing I replaced cause it was the worst radio with Bose system with amplifiers failing.
I replaced it with Kenwood, and never looked back except 10 years later updated to new version?

LOL, i pulled out the Alpine MINI DISC player & CD stacker and will replace with something Bluetooth. But for cheaper Collector insurance we need OEM. I never heard of mini-disc before i yanked this out. Apparently the mini disc might have decent re-sale, at least on Ebay they do. The OEM prices on ebay are ridiculous but I guess if they think someone is putting in a 40 y/o POS stereo, they are willing to pay obnoxious amount.
