Default Gary's corvettes

Anyone use this outfit for a rebuilt cluster? I know everyone is a fan of Batee, and I realize he does great service and work, but was wondering if this is a good alternative. My '90 has a tachometer reading high, and I saw where his clusters are about 275.00 on ebay. I think Batee MAY be a little more expensive, and I am in this car pretty cheap so far, and want to kinda keep it that way, but if the quality is not good, I want to know. Any comments or experiences?

My grandfather told me once when I was 16, "remember boy, you pay cheap, you get cheap". I have used that principle for nearly the next 30 years of my life and it has served me well. I have used Batee and have been very happy with their service! I have not used Gary's Corvettes, nor have I ever heard of them. With thay said, it doesn't make them a bad company, nor does it mean that their lower prices indicate inferior work compared to Bryan's at Batee. But if it were me, I would stick with a company I know is reputable and that everyone trusts. If you want to save a few bucks, do some research on Gary's Corvettes and see what you come up with. Make you decision following the completion of your research.

It's tough to break into a market with a juggernaut with as well established as a tee, especially a niche one.

Gary might be great and better, faster, and cheaper than Batee. No idea. But to really break into that niche, he will have to be.

Someone has to be the guinea pig. Maybe email him and see if he'd do a deal where you get a reduced price and in return offer an in iased review?

I got a Messenger message out of the blue from someone about Garys. Caveat emptor...I have not used them at all, and it appears that they are brand new, posting in the Corvette Owners and other profiles on FB. Thus I have no first hand experience. Don't want to bash them out of hand.

Competition seats for 1500...complete tire and wheel packages for about the same...

I have been watching his FB listings, and they seem too good to be true. But who am I?

Gary is somewhat local to me and I used one of his clusters and have had zero issues with the cluster. Since he is local I went to his house/business and picked it up in person. He buys wrecked C4's and parts them out as well as the cluster exchange business. While I had no issues with the cluster he had a steering wheel in one of his part outs I was interested in, he failed to send me the better pics of just the steering wheel. That was over a year ago, I haven't inquired about anything else from him but would if he had it for a good price and I could pick it up I would use him again.

It is a legitimate business and it appears to have grown so there are probably enough happy customers to make that happen.

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty well into this car on the cheap, and just trying to kinda keep it that way. I was actually going to just flip it, then fixed a few little issues and I got to enjoying the Z51 suspension over my base 89 six speed, and can't seem to stop driving it now, lol.

When I originally found him it was on FB Marketplace, he had no website then, just an Ebay and Marketplace presence. If he was not local so I could pick it up in person, I would not have bought it. When buying parts on FB if I can't pick it up in person, with cash, I won't do business with them. Too many scammers out there, Gary is not one of those. I have had the cluster almost 2.5 years now and it has been solid.

I bought a cluster from Gary's Corvettes via Ebay for my 87 in September. I have driven over 9,000 miles since I installed it with zero functional issues.

The only problem I had with the cluster has to do with the housing; the upper two screw holes where the bezel screws in were stripped. I was able to fix this by using a thread repair kit. Since these housings are used, I did not find it to be a major issue, and this leads to one of the advantages of Gary's: you do not need to send in your core. My car had 38,000 miles when I replaced the cluster, and I wanted to keep it so I could rebuild it myself on a longer timeline. If you return a core, I think you receive a $150 credit.

Overall, the cluster wasn't really cheaper than Batee. I used Gary's Corvettes because I did not want to wait for my cluster to be sent in and rebuilt. I am likely going to buy rebuild parts from Batee r to rebuild my other cluster and have a good spare, because I like his site and all of the information he provides, but it's great to have more than one cluster rebuild option. My cluster looks and functions beautifully.

I think either option is great; I haven't used Batee yet, but I have only heard good things about his service.
