Someone asked about Flowmasters exhaust. What does everyone think is the best exhaust for the C4??? Borla, Corsca, Walker. Whats the best combo.
Does it really give a lot of additional horsepower or is that just marketing talk???
Oh boy here we go again! there is a diverse opinion on this subject, I will try a X cross over and 3 chamber (50 series) mufflers on my 92 and I will report as soon as I can
Mufflers, all by themselves, are all within 2 or 3 hp of each other. There was a huge thread on this not long ago. Go with the ones that sound best to you.
Just personally now, mind you, I like Corsas over flowmasters. Of course, I'm a little prejudiced since I have them on mine. I think flowmasters are just a tad bit too loud for my tin ears.
Borlas sound very good, but for what you get, IMHO, simply cost too much.
None of them "give" you any extra horsepower. At best all they do is "free up" some of the horsepower you already have, which may be lost in backpressure.

Re: Best sound/performance (mistercorvette89)
I have been beating on this issue since before I bought my car a couple months ago. And based on many opinions and listening to different systems, I ordered the Magnaflow. Been a Flowmaster faithful for years (drag car, truck, etc.) and for some reason could never bring myself to go that route in the vette. I really like the looks of the Corsa and Magnaflow.
I just repladed rear mufflers with straight pipes and nice tips, cost under $110, sounds good and little reaonance inside. Suggest put your baby on a rack, drop the mufflers, lower it and crank it up so you can judge for your self. You can then always as Flomaster or something else.
Well, when I bought my 86 Vett it had a stock system with a cracked rear y-pipe. I replaced it and there was still no rumble. So , I went for a custom system. Straight pipes without mufflers and resonators on the ends. Free flow at its best. :steering:
Last I heard Corsa was working on a system for the L98 engine, but I don't believe they have one yet. I don't know when it's due out, but if I were you I'd wait for the Corsa. No resonance at all, sounds awesome at WOT, well mannered in every day driving.
For your best $$$$$$$$$$$$$...FlowMaster's of course.....
You can bet on the best sound and performance with them...
My humble thoughts....

I have the Corsa's and love them, little to no resonance. They don't make them for the L98 but you can make an LT1 system fit your car, you just need hangers, etc. I used to have elims, they were cool but got annoying, as my car is a daily driver.
99% of aftermarket exhaust owners will recommend what THEY have on the car. Sound quality is an individual taste, as is the sound quality of aftermarket sterio equipment.
My vote goes towards Power Effects, although I also like Corsa.
Now, the thing that I think is funny....... someone will say that Power Effects is too EXPENSIVE!
Well, isnt that really a relative term? Are you willing to pay for what you like? I was.
Relatively speaking, arent ALL aftermarket systems too expensive...when compared to an already installed stock system?
If you are not sure of what to buy, I would suggest visiting a show and listening to various systems for sound quality, and ask the owners about any quality/installation/maintenance problems. :D
I personally think that Borlas are hard to beat if price is not a factor. They really sound great and I get lots of compliments out running around town. My two cents.
Took this link from the C5 discussion on cam/exhaust because it sounds just like my 396 with the XE 230/236 cam and the Power Effects exhaust. Have 3" inch pipes, xpipe connect to my Power Effects mufflers. Also have interchaneable off road pipes with no cats. Being able to shut the noise down driving around town sometimes is a nice option with the PE. http://www.blastic.com/audio/vette.mp3
