I almost bought a 93 vette last fall after selling my 81 but what scared me off was that the acrylic roof was spider webbing at the attachment points.
Is that normal?
Is a hard roof better? Less flex?

If by spider webbing you mean hairline cracks in the arcylic then yes it's normal. If you can feel the cracks with your fingernail then it's more than spider webbing.
I like the glass roof, it give some good visability but I never heard of webbing near the mounting spots, the directions did say not to overtighten them. ;)
It might be. Sometimes when I back out of my driveway, I could hear the glass top creak and make noise. Also my glass top has no signs of webbing and I had it on for about 8 months. I think the webbing would happen when it is tightened real tight and driven over road or courses that would cuase the body to flex. And then making the window either break or make small cracks like webbing. ;)
Do you think the webbing is a sign of a bigger problem?
The acrylic tops flex a little but causing the problem. Normally it appearws all through the top. If it's localized by the moounting points it could mean the top mounting points aren't adusted correctly.
My 87 only has an acrylic roof. It was garage kept till 94, so she has been exposed to alot of heat here in South Florida. I have the webbing effect on mine. In the military, the jet cockpit bubbles would get fine lines on them, we called that crazed. I keep thinking I need to get a new one, but this one is lasting so far. Oh, never get that rainx stuff on it. I have a nice round spot where it ate the top coating off. As for the heat, I have the static cling, hole matrix liner on the inside of the top. No problems now for over 3 years and it keeps it much cooler while I can still see out.
well, i looked at lots of vette before buying mine.
most have the small cracks. and they seem to form closest to the bolts.
is it normal. well, kinda. it is normal, and unless its really bad, probably wont mean much, but its a sign that the window was stressed alot, maybe by tightening the bolts too much. or setting it down on a corner to hard. if i were to had to get a acrylic roof, id get a almost perfect one only. if only that it would extent the time i would have to get a new one and i would know how it was treated that made it become like that.
