I got all this info from the April 03' edition of Motor Trend. There is alot more. I suggest to everyone buy this issue if you haven't already. Theres alot of good Corvette stuff. :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
I dont know I still think the '69 ZL1 is pretty dam fast.
They under rated that thing so much. Swap in a bigger carb some slicks and your in the 11's.
My friend, and fellow Desert Corvette Association club member, Ed Van Scoy, holds the B/GT land speed record at Bonneville at just over 223 MPH average, and the C/GT record at over 203. There is a great article about Ed and Linda in the latest issue of Corvette Magazine.

Just to add to NavyVet's info the the fastest land speed Corvette record is held by Juris Mindenburg. He Drove his AA-GT Big Block C4 to a speed average of 266.450 mph @ Bonneville in 1988. While trying to best his record he crashed the car @ 270 mph. YEE HAA!!! :steering:
I wonder if the LPE 427 TT would out run the sledgehammer in top end... That car ran close to 255mph I think... :reddevil
I don't think the aerodynamics of the C5 are good enough.
Exactly right. Also the c5 TT doesnt have the HP to overcome the drag. The sledgehammer i think had in excess of 900 (i think ?) hp. and the record i think is 254.7 mph.
fastest late model vette i know is from a local shoppe. Its a 96 yellow coupe and has a 406 bowtie motor with a single turbo (super thumper). Last dyno it got 1359 RWHP. If i remember correctly their best time is 8.44 @ 189 mph. With a drag radial on the zr1 rims it spun all the way thru the 1/4.. was one funny run.... 10.2 @172 mph . Im pretty sure hes run in tennesse and Englishtown before. Those that remember the red c4 thats always there... he built the yellow one.

Re: FASTEST VETTE EVER (*89x2*)
RPO B2K = 191.5 mph 1989 Aerobody Coupe.
That was my guess. The aerobody makes a big difference.
The older vette body supposedly has a Cd of 0.35
Does anyone have numbers on the aerobody? Also, I'm curious how much lowering the rake angle and the whole car by 1" has on the effect of the drag. I do know that Cd has nothing to do with the frontal area of a car. For example, an 18-wheeler can have a better Cd than a 10 yr old on a 50cc motorcycle.

the sledgehammer had more horsepower but i think the car might have been heavier, the sledgehammer had almost 1000 hp out of a 350
speaking of which have you seen that new bugatti 16/4? 1001 horsepower out of a quad turbocharged w-16, top speed 254.
