Default Power steering pump

I am at work, bored, waiting for info to come in so I can get back to work... so i thought I would ask.

This morning, it felt as though my power-steering were going out. I was in the bank parking lot, and twice, I had to wrench the wheel to get it to turn.

What's a new pump cost these days? Is it a job for a beginner wrench of should I just take it to the delaer?

 You may want to try a simpler solution at first, before you spend the bigger bucks

Try changing the fluid. A big squeeze ball or a turkey baster will get most of the old fluid out of the reservoir. Fluid does go bad, it is subject to a range of heat. I use Amzoil synthetic tranny fluid in my PS and have for years. No problems, no morning sickness

Also check your belt and tensioner. If either is too worn, the belt will slip on the PS pulley and it can feel like a dying pump.

I think I am good there, I just replaced the belt a couple hundred miles ago.
