In my quest for a newer vette, I have come across a black LT4 with 106K miles that I could possibly get for $10,000. I have not seen the car yet just talked on the phone to him and according to him it is "strong" and has no rips/tears/stains on the upholstry or carpet.
My delima is that I was looking for a car under 70K miles for a daily driver for a while.
Everyone's going to tell you that the high mileage cars are better than low mileage cars. I say it's :bs. If it's not what you're looking for, don't buy it. You may kick yourself sometime down the road. Plus, with that amount of mileage, things will break, no doubt about that. Not that they're unreliable, they are, but I wouldn't buy one with over 100k on it. :nono:
Remember, you don't put miles ONLY on mechanicals in a car. The entire car has that amount of miles. Paint, glass, top, body, wheels, tires, interior, electronics, HVAC, etc. all go along for the ride too. That's just the way I see it. It can run like a champ and drive like a champ, but if there's just too much general wear and tear on the interior and exterior, I wouldn't buy it.
Now adays 100,000 miles isn't like it used to be. If you plan on driving it and not using it then why not? I've got 60,000+ on my LT4 and it feels better now than it did the day I drove it off the show room floor. :yesnod:
In fact I am thinking about getting this one a roommate to share the garage with. I just can't decide which Vette to go with.

A 96 LT4 with 106k for 10 grand in very good condition. Not a bad price for the car but I would expect you to drive it first and see it first hand! I really don't see why you shouldn't consider purchasing it if it has been taken care of by it's previous owner(s).
One last thing..if this car is not extremely close to what you are looking for then don't buy it. Good luck!

Actually if you want to take a look at it is in your town (I see you are from Alex.). If you want the number shoot me an email. I think I will pass not only for the miles but I will have to find finacing for atleast half and it will be hard to find on a 100K+ mile car. I have been thinking about it but there are several LT1s I am looking at that are only about $2-3K more with half the miles, just can't justify it, and some of you have made me feel better about my decision.
I gotta agree with TA. LT4=$10000. If its in any kind of decent shape its gotta be worth it. If you don't like it burn it and you'll probably get your money back. I don't think thats legal but you get my point. :D
Huh? The wheels and glass have 106k miles?
How many miles will the wheels go? Do they break after 150k?
A windshield breaks after how many miles? Will it break on que?
106k on a LT-4 is nothing.
A friend bought a frame off restored 1958 Corvette. $60,000.00
It never ran right, 0 miles = big problems.
Cars are meant to be driven.
Some parts on todays cars will last for hundreds of years.
A hub-cap from a 1957 Chevy will last for a thousand years.
Its not the mileage its the care of the previous owner that counts.
Have you changed out the brake fluid in your car? Its very important in a car with ABS.
Do you change out your anti-freeze yearly? Gear lube? Power steering fluid?
Cleaned your battery cables?
How long will the body of a Corvette last? 100 years? 200 years?
it depends on the condition of the car. if it looks like a 100k mile car you dont want it. if the car is in great shape but the miles are high it would not bother me that much, as long as its going to be a daily driver. 100k is about where things start to wear out like alternator, starter, water pump... plan on fixing a few things.
This sounds like a no brainer if youre vette shoppin. I knew of a GS that had 120000 sold locally for 20k (well he was askin 20k and doesnt give them away). Youre gonna drive it anyway You can buy for 10000 spend 10000 on getting the whole drivedrain redone with mods. You would still be ahead and beatin C5s.
My 92 has 110k miles on it... sure, it needs some TLC, and will be getting here as soon as this damned disagreeable weather ends... :mad
Like Mojo, my 92 has given little or no problems... it has never stranded me... nor has it ever been towed!
Whereas low mileage cars can have their own special problems... rotting seals... leaks... questionable electrics... sitting will cause a car to atrophy.

I almost bought that car. I saw it at Contemporary one day, looking back, I should have bought it, it would have been a great daily driver.
