Can you please help this 'mechanically challenged' C4 Vette owner preform the following.
1-Jacking/do you damage the paint when you jack at the jackpoints on the frame rails?
2-After jacking a wheel where do you position the jackstand?
3-When removing a wheel (ZR1 Chromes) how do I remove the lug nuts without scarfing up the chrome?
4-Any problem with steam cleaning the wheel wells?
1. I don't use the jack points. I use a flat piece of the frame inwards a little more. I have used them before though and my paint is fine I think. It'll make some cracking noises, but thats ok.

 This may be unorthodox, but
I bought several standard C4 jacks on e bay and regularly, like every two weeks, remove either both front or back wheels.
Using the factory JACK POINTS, has never been a problem
I have installed new sway bars, C5 brakes, etc. without jack stands. I can and do lift the entire front end or the back end with no problem.
The standard jacks and Jack points are quite secure! Would GM open themselves up to lawsuits if they weren't?

1-I jack the car up from the factory points. I use a floor jack and put a piece of wood (an old hockey puck would be better), between the jack and the frame.
2-I put the jack stands between the jackpoints and the wheel wells, where the frame turns inward.
3-Carefully, but over time you'll end up scratching them.

Re: C4 Jacking & Wheel Removal (enuf4me)
One can safely, conveniently, and efficiently jack up the entire side of the car by placing a floor jack under the metal frame that runs the length of each side of the car. Place the floor jack in the middle. This should be on a perpendicular line approximately three inches forward of the top of the windshield. Works like a piece of cake. I changed my wheels twice Saturday using this method. No problem.

At http://www.griotsgarage.com, they sell a set of impact sockets that are coated with a soft plastic to remove lugs without damaging the wheels. I have not ordered them because the space between the lug and wheel on my 87 aftermarkets is too narrow for impact sockets. I just take my time and be real careful.

Re: C4 Jacking & Wheel Removal (beachcat)
Wrap your lug wrench with electrical tape where it comes near the wheel. I did this on mine to avoid scratching/chipping the chrome. A few wraps of electrical tape will stay on there if you don't stretch it when you put it on there, and will be soft enough to protect your wheels.

Great tip! Think I'll be doing that right away.
Thanks.

I use the jack point to jack the car up, usually the entire side of the car come us. I place the jackstands on the fram between the jack point the wheel, when the frame curves. This is what the factory manual recommends as well as GM. Good enough for me.
