Okay, so I upgraded my BOSE system to an aftermarket last weekend. In the process I had the door panels off, and removed the BOSE enclosers and put in my new front speakers. After I bolted everything back together I ran into a problem. My passenger side window now sticks about 60% of the way up. When it hits this position it "dies". It doesn't respond at all, seems almost like it is getting no power. If I rattle and pull at the window up or down when I am giving it power it will then suddenly return to normal and work. Only problem is when it hits that spot in the track again, it dies.
I took the door panel off again to see if I damaged anything, couldn't see anything in particular. Is there something I should look for? Or is this just a complete fluke, and the problem is unrelated to the stereo upgrade and messing inside the door. Really wierd problem, because it is almost like the motor is completely dead in that spot, then gets power again at all other positions.
Anybody else have this problem? Right now at least I know I can get the window up and it really isn't completely stuck, but would like it to be right. How much work is it to replace the motor if that is my issue?
Seems everytime you upgrade something, another piece needs to break.
Ran into a prob like this in auto body back in high school. If I remeber right, the first thing we tried was the problem. Check for a loose connection. Thats all I know to say. Good luck and hope the steroe sounds great!

I really haven't checked much, my cheapy repair manual didn't have any info on the power windows because it says they are only dealer servicable (I know that is BS). Need to find a good reference to figure out what is wrong.
On my '91 I had a problem when I replaced the door ajar sensor.....one of the screws in the door handle area(or maybe it was under the light I forget) was keeping the window from going all the way up.....it took me a few times yanking the door panel off and cursing the whole time to realize what the problem was :smash:
hmm, that is an idea to try. althought then I would figure it would draw current when it is stuck. That is the odd part, when it gets stuck, it doesn't draw any current. Only once you wiggle it out of the "dead spot" does it regain life and the current flows again.
Indeed! Took the door apart again today. After looking at it very closely I noticed that the connector to the motor had a ton of grim on it. After I pulled it off and cleaned it, it worked fine. It was also slightly loose. Guess when I put everything back together one of the wires was getting caught in the mechanism and tugging just enough to make it lose connection temporarily.
Glad it was a simple fix, feel stupid for not noticing it when I first was inside the door. Thanks for the suggestions.
