I thought I would share this as it may save you a big headache. The "readers digest " version is as follows. I recieved an offer for 2 free issues of Vette Magaizine in the mail. We all get them from time to time. I filled out their card and finally got one free issue about 2 months later. I didn't care for the magizine as compared to Corvette Fever which I was already subscribing. I notified Vette mag. to cancel and recieved a notice that my "subscription" was "suspended". Now keep in mind that there was never a subscription in the first place. Upon receipt of my "suspension" I considered the matter closed. Today I get a letter from the North Shore Collection Agency in Westbury NY. They are asserting that I owe Vette magazine $27.95 and that Vette "is unable to collect by their own efforts". I have had no other correspondence with Vette since the notice of my "suspension".
WTF.....They are billing me for something that I didn't agree to subscribe. There was only an offer for 2 free issues with no other obligation. Now they have turned billing over to a collection agency for 12 issues that were never sent to me nor requested. I'm certinetly not affraid to tell them to go screw themselves and did so very "nicely" in a letter.
If you are considering subscribing to their magazine, be damn careful how you go about it. Also, be aware of their offer to recieve "free issues". It is obvious that these people are clueless on how to do business. Thanks for the chance to rant a little too. :D
This kind of crap is happening everywhere!!! So many offering free something and in tiny print they state after free trial you must notify them that you wish to terminate or billing will start. BEWARE!!!!!!!! :mad
Update: I called Vette mag. and they some how "lost" my request to cancel. So instead of contacting me for clarification, they just decided it was in the best interest to send the account to a collection agency. In any event, the lovely voice on the other end of the line (@ Vette) said she will contact the Coll. agency to advise "all is well". My only questions is why not send me a quick letter in the first place explaining their position? Is it their business practice to fool around with a guys credit even if the screw up was on their end? Hmmmmmm!
Anyway, all may be well. Enough said. Cavot emptor.
I've got the same crap happenning to me with Vette and Boating magazine. If someone fills out one of those subscription cards that come with the magazines with your name without your permission and send it in, all of a sudden you're on the hook. That's not right! :nonod:

Re: Vette Magizine...Warning (Rudy Crichlow)
Thats a load of :bs what they did but is very common in the publishing biz. I used to sell real estate and the mortgage companies would usually overlook something like this as it always turned out to be the publisher's fault. :boxing

Re: Vette Magizine...Warning (ittlfly)
I have found that magazines and newspapers don't seem to understand the meaning of the word "no." I have lost count of the number of times that some weasel from a magazine or one of the local newspapers has called the house and subbed us to their rag based upon the limited English diction of my wife on the other end of the telephone line.
:eek::(:eek::(:eek:
Corvette Fever and Vette both do that.
I get mag and ignore the payment. Fight fire with fire, eventually I send them the money.
Both good mags.
I didn't pay the tags on my Corvette, sold it, the PRC sent me a notice that my house would taken and sold for a tax bill of $56.00.
After I said the car went out of state, the state caved in.
They've got the power, who gave them the power? They did!
