Default "Full Engine Power" light

What year(s) had the Full Engine Power light?

I read a post on this a while back but can't find it via the search.

Thanks

Robert

Sounds like a line from Star Trek.

I presume it was to do with the valet key?

Can you buy the light screen on it's own or do you have to buy half of the dash to get it?

Thanks

All '90 Corvettes have the light but it only works on the ZR1s unless you hook it up manually like MarchoPolo did.

Not sure if the light is on the DIC of the '91-95 non-ZR1 Corvettes.

Well, you've got me curious now .... I know that my '90 has that light since it stays on all the time :D
I'll have to look at the '94 to see if there's a place for it.

The only thing I can fathom is the Valet Key on all ZR-1's. It is below the radio and is marked with "Normal" and "Full Power" with the LED next to "Full Power".
It's used to control the second fuel pump, secondary plenum runners, and the secondary 8 injectors on the LT-5 engine.

The light on my '90 has been disconnected (too annoying to see all the time). But in the 91-95s as I have read do not have the light in the DIC, there is a LED next to the power key that lights up instead. I like that setup better, its a small LED.

Actually I wish that the "Full Engine Power" light display said the following:

"More Power Drill Sergeant"

sorry, couldn't resist :D

Ahhh, so that light was in the DIC on the 90's. Didn't know that. Gotta love the forum! :yesnod:

just curious, when you zr1 guys switch over to reduced power, say if your cruising on the freeway or something, does your gas mileage improve

Depends on your driving style. The secondaries wont kick in until about 70% throttle. So if you are easy on the pedal you wont notice a difference either way, but if you are on it (70% or more throttle), you will get worse gas mileage if the "FULL POWER" switch is activated as opposed to better gas mileage with "NORMAL POWER" activated. When you are in full power mode, you are running 16 injectors, and when you are in normal power mode you run on only 8 injectors. I definately notice the difference in both modes (gas mileage and Power difference :) ).

I leave my key on all the time to help keep the secondaries clean.

Yeah, I do to. Sucks you can't take the key out though in full mode. I'd never need the key.

Well, I hope someone sees this post and can give me some guidance. Recently, the Full Engine Power indicator in the DIC went off. I believe the car defaulted to the Normal Power setting at the same time. I have the thing apart. There are two wires and what seems to be a common post at the switch. When using an ohmmeter I show a dead short between the common post and one lead. Nothing between the other lead and common post. Same on the switch (leads and their connectors removed from the switch). Does this indicate one side of the switch is bad? If so, why do neither Normal Power or Full Power illuminate in the DIC? I'm gonna try to find a switch if not terribly over priced just to see if that fixes it. Thought someone might have experienced a similar issue.
Thanks!

The ECM ultimately controls all the secondary apparatus - which includes that "FULL ENGINE POWER" light (or LED) as long as certain parameters are met, according to an algorithm combination of rpm, and throttle position, AND provided there are no codes set!

However, it is not uncommon for the contacts of that switch to become corroded and therefore become "sketchy" and inadvertently signalling the ECM to revert to NORMAL mode, and the FULL ENGINE POWER light will also go out.

Some take the switch apart and clean the contacts and apply a coating of dielectric grease to prevent further corrosion from forming. And, others solder a jumper across the switch contacts which assures corrosion will never be a factor again; especially in the case were the LT5 is to always be in full power mode.

So, the "bottom line" is, FIRST the switch has to be sending the FULL POWER signal to the ECM, and SECOND there are certain codes that if set the ECM will not activate the secondaries nor the FULL ENGINE POWER light (or LED).

Lastly, this question should be put in the ZR-1 section on this FORUM and/or submitted on the ZR1 NetRegistry FORUM
