I currently have an '85 Vette right now which is giving me trouble. It seems like every time I fix something a new thing on it will be broken or not work. I am begining to wonder if I should just sell it, then save money and buy a newer one later. I know if I sell it I will take a huge loss on it but I dont know if I can keep this up. My original plans was to restore it and just keep it until I could buy my dream Vette but if I can't enjoy this one whenever I want mabey I should just sell it. What do you all think, should I sell it and take a two thousand dollar loss and buy another one down the road, or should I keep it and fix it up which will probably cost me six thousand dollars?

Re: What to do? (atotalnincompoop)
tough call :yesnod:
if you can do the work yourself then keep it, if you are having to cough up for a mechanic every week then dump her! that's my $.02
:iagree:
I'm in the same shoes as you. I think my car has PMS. When I bought it, everything looked to be in pristine condition, and it made no funny noises.
Depends on how much you love the car i guess. You could just put it up, if its not daily driven, and save up your money until you can replace just about everything.
It all depends on your intended purpose. Daily driver weekend cruiser, racing, show car.
If $6000 is going to fix everything, might as well keep it. If you sell and take a $2k loss and buy another C4 that's newer(and therefore, more $$$), you may find a higher repair bill since you bought another used car.
You would already be $2k in the hole, you are goingto spend at least $10k or more for another, so that's $12k right there for another car that may or may not be better.
So now that $6k doesn't look so bad now does it?
If you can spread the repairs over a longer period rather than all at once, you won't feel the hit.
I paid $22k for my '95 and sunk close to $10k into over teh years and teh car is still basically stock.
I paid almost $16k for my '93 and almost immediately sunk another $4k into it and it is still relatively stock.
Of course not all of that was necessary, but I did it anyway.
Let us know what is wrong with your car and we can give better advice.
I hate to see any C4 get sold, you never know where it will end up.
I'd rather see it stay in the hands of someone who will enjoy it.
Thanks everyone for your advice. It is a tough call for me but this car needs body work, new paint, transmission work, engine work, new carpet, seats, and other small things. I'm no master mechanic and I think it would better for me to take a loss on it and buy newer model C-4, preferable a 92 or newer since that is the first year with the LT-1. Besides I like the the interior alot better for the newer models. I will go ahead and put a picture on here or at least the link to see the picture of it
