Dyeing Carpet?
Has anyone out there ever dyed their carpet? Mine is gray, but is faded and has some minor spots. A friend told me that it is easy to dye carpet back to the original color. Is this a good alternative to new carpet? Or too much hassle?
Thanks,
Dave

I did mine. Used RIT dye, rubber gloves and a sponge. Just don't get the carpet overly wet. It'll work...
And welcome to the

I changed out all my carpeting this spring. I think I counted 15 separate pieces. It was one of the best projects I have done so far and a beginner with patience can do this
The new carpet is very

New to this forum, will take a while to get the jargon down. What does TTT mean?

I think I heard somewhere before that the dye will come off onto your clothes. Anyone know if this is truth or myth?

I dyed the carpet in my '70....I used an aerosole spray dye that I bought at Pep Boy's.

It might come of if a cheap product is used, but not with "RIT" dye, it's been around for ever. Mine hasn't & it's a year old now ? ?

Re: Dyeing Carpet? (68someday94now)
I used the RIT dye method on mine and it is a big improvement. Mix the dye, get your color match just right, and you will be satisfied. Put the dye mix in a spray bottle, spray the carpet, and work the dye in with a brush. Wipe any overspray off with a wet towel. After it dries, rub over the carpet with a wet towel to remove extra dye.
I did mine about 4 months ago. I haven't noticed the dye rubbing off. It was a big improvement. I will eventually replace the carpet, but it did buy me some time before I have to drop the bucks for carpet. It doesn't look new, but I looks much better.
