Some nice info to know, so I can hopefully do the school thing and have it erased, just wondering the likelyhood of loosing license?
not had a ticket in 7 years and them I just paid for, this one gives no choice but go to court, and I've heard some horror stories!
Were you driving recklessly, and did you have your license taken away?
I heard once (in the state of ohio), that you, believe-it-or-not, can request to have a minor traffic offense (like speeding) transferred to your home court.
In doing that, the ticketing officer will most likely not travel to your state, and your home court will likely care less about some offense you got somewhere else.
It sounds fishy, but a cop friend told me that.
Dont know if something like that would apply to your case
Was just driving normally down Interstate, must have been just a little fast I guess. He did not take my license, but when I asked how much my ticket was he said he did not know and that I would have to goto court in NC and take it up with the judge. He was pulled in to a little side area with the back of his car facing me and when I passed him I was doing about 53, my radar detector did not even go off. Even with him behind me.
ARGHHH
 You did NOT get a ticket?? Why do you have to appear in court? I was under the impression that a ticket simply means that an officer observed you violating a specific ordinance and that it specifies what the ordinance was (code or regulation number), what you were doing (speed or whatever) , and where you were doing it. It lists the legal options you have for judgement. A promise to appear in a court is one option but you would have to be served a "summons" (some tickets are called that) to arrange for a court date.
Did the officer take your license and give you a temp one until a court date is arranged? Is almost 20 over considered reckless in NC?
No, I got a ticket/Summons, but it did not have the option to pay it off instaed of going to court, it just had court date and where to go.
I am not sure but I beleive anything over 15 could be wreckless, I hope not.
I am going to have to drive 1-1/2 hours out of state for an 8:30 a.m. court session.
My license was not taken, he just told me that anything under 70 was $125 ticket, anything over was a court date and then to be carefull and of course "have a nice day".
I know it is inconvenient, but it is in you best interest to go to court. You can plead a lesser penality for lower points. And if the officer doesn't show up, the judge usually gives you the benefit of any doubt. My son got a fix it ticket and the officer didn't show up and the judge suspended everybodies tickets. Did you sign anything? If not, how do they know it was you?
I signed the ticket but this was to say that i received the ticket.
hopefully I will be able to pay the fine, whatever it may be, then somehow maybe school or something, get the points off the record.
Nc makes you go to court for that much over. You will get some letters in the mail from lawyers who, for about $200 total, can get you out of the ticket and insurance surcharge. there are three methods to do this in NC.
1. Improper equipment
2. reduced to 5 over
3. prayer for judgment
I did the first which involved getting my speedo checked. Even if it is perfect, you still get out of it.
If you hire the lawyer, you don't have to go to court. they go for you.
My Wife got a ticket in December.. They said she was doing 72 in a 55...
First your radar probably didnt go off because you may not have been speeding or in NC the troopers can write you a ticket based on their estimation of your speed and not even use a radar :mad The cop does not have to be present for your day in court. They have it set up so on the date, you go to the court house stand in line for what they call disposition court. Those that want to plead their case go on into the court room those that just want to pay up and leave, do so... You want to go into the court room. They will reduce your speed to 9 over the limit or you can do prayer for judgement, with PFJ it is up to the judge whether or not you still pay court cost, etc.... Most make you pay... if you are likely to get another ticket in the next 3 years, do not do PFJ......If you want to know what method the cop used to determine your speed, it should be checked on the ticket.... The fine is usually $25 plus court cost in most NC courts.. Total is about $125...
Hope this helps Kyle
I am originally from NC, and have gotten a few tickets there, so I can offer some advise. First, definatley go to court. When you get there, the DA will ask you if you want to plead guilty to 9 over. You say yes, and you get no points on your DL, and you just pay the fine.
That sucks. My wife just got her second ticket here. Your best bet is to get a Lawyer to go to court for you. I don't know about Tenn, but here in NC if you get points, your insurance almost doubles! The ticket then becomes irrevelent! Any Lawyer can get you out of the points, but you will still have to pay the fine. Welcome to NC.......Drive safe.........and have a nice day!
I got a ticket in NC about three weeks ago...62 in 45..I also have to appear in court. My wife tried everything to try and pay the ticket, but they refused and insisted that I show up so they can reduce the speed and POINTS. They also said that its a good idea to show up so your license would not be suspended in NC...GOOD LUCK
I got a ticket for a 74 in a 55 as well, awhile back. Your best bet is to go to court or a lawyer, I was able to use some connections and get it dropped to 5 over and no points or negative affects on my insurance. A prayer for judgement might be the way to go if you do not plan on travelling alot in NC and since you are from tennessee.
