Ever get a freebie?
One of the other posts reminded me of how generous mechanics or parts -counter dudes can be when they are standin there admirin your car with a big That's A Cool Car Grin. For example: I have a sproinged driver's mirror from where the previous owner's 70-sumthin mom caught the garage door frame while backin out. I got a replacement mirror from Michigan Corvette Recyclers and took it and the car to the local body shop for a paint match (I have the rare Medium Metallic Brown color). The guy was just bustin his face cause his smile was so big. I had to listen to his "I usta own a split window but sold it for $2,000 bux back in 74" tale. He only charged me $20 to strip, prime, repaint. The mirror is a perfect match! Anyone else ever get a freebie or cheapie or extras? :blueangel:
I needed some fuel line for the pvc to tb connection. It was just before closing time so i phoned the parts store and asked if he could drop it off at my place.(small town) When he arrived i threw him a beer and he gave me the hose. Delivered and no charge !!! Remember to be very nice to the guy working behind the counter of your parts store. They can be very helpful !!
It is funny that you posted this today because I took my 86 to a professional detailer yesterday. He is going to fix chipped paint on the hood and buff the whole car. After we went over the car he asked if there was anything else.I told him I would like to do the engine compartment but couldn't afford to do both right now.He told me to raise the hood so he could take a look. After looking he said he would just do it.

Re: Ever get a freebie? (AGENT 86)
:iagree: A few years ago I read an article in Corvette Fever where a local guy had rebuilt a 67 big block and traced the original owner to a guy named Ranger. Well, the local NAPA store owner has the same name. I gave him the issue of CF and he said, yes it was my car at one time. After that, any parts I needed were given top priority along with lots of helpful advice. I even used to stop in with chocolate shakes or donuts for the crew from time to time. They treated me great! :blueangel:
A few years ago when the Firestone FireHawk SZ50 tire first came out, I had my '93 LT coupe at the time. Firestone gave me a set of tires FREE to test. Only condition was I had to take it in to Firestone about every 3 months to answer some question about the tires and for them to measure the treadware. They never asked for them back, I ended up selling the car with those tires still on it.
Brought the vette in for state inspection this spring at the garage that has helped me out from time to time. Inspection, sticker, and a "once over" at no charge. The owner says that it's great publicity to have the vette in his shop. LIFE IS GOOD !!!!!!
When I built the Open Road Racecar the mechanic/good friend gave me a ton of free hours (read thousands of $) of labor. So now he is my navigator/co driver in the races.
