I've been thinking about this also. Would be nice to have latches on there, a la C5.

My top would come off A LOT MORE FREQUENTLY if there was such a thing that was reasonably priced.

I am sure that such a system would sell very well...especially with a GP or something on the forum! :yesnod:

My impression is that since the top on the C4 actually provides part of the structure to the overall body, it really needs a more structural type of attachment than a latch--hence the screws and aligning cups.

But if you use that roof brace, it's not as important a structural member.
Just a though.

hmm,i want one too :hurray:
even if it were a quarter turn affair like the old hood hold downs on my 71 mach1 mustang came with would be better than all them threads.
1/4 turn with a nice litte stubby handle on each.
maybe modify a good wing window latch mechanism,(if there ever was one)
good thought.
if you make it,they will come ;)

ok...i went to my shop today and dug out my quick release top invention, i'm pretty excited again about it, now what i need to know is, how much would you guys be willing to pay for an easily installed, lever type handle release? similar to the handles on a c3. i had stopped developement last year because of my surgery and the fact that i was frustrated with the front handles, the rears come off with the roof panel, but the fronts stay attatched to the windshield frame, i was having problems with keeping them from rattling when the roof was off. i started to rethink that problem today, hopefully I'll have a solution this week, i just dont want to end up with anything that looks stupid, in fact i hope that you won't see them at all.

any feedback would be great :steering:

Well, what does everyone think? I'm thinking in the $40 to $50 range, I'm not sure if I'd spend more than that.
Hopefully that's enough "margin" to make it worth while manufacturing them....without having to have them made in Korea or Taiwan.
I'm sure someone will let me know if that's way out of line. :D

This is funny that this topic came up today. I was brainstorming a quick release solution on the way to work. I think it is very possible.

I'd be very interested in this also. I was thinking along the lines of the convertable style release. Would somebody please invent this so I don't have to think real hard I can just buy it. :D

I think 40-50 would be to slim. You have to think about material cost, design, and manufacturing. I think $90-100 is more realistic, and would still sell.

I already found one type of latch that'd work great on Granger's website. Only one problem... it's nylon. I'll check at the hardware store when I get a chance. If there's something close that could be modified, it WOULD be cheap to do.

Great topic, I've considered this lately myself. I agree with centralcoaster, I think it would be closer to $100 or maybe even more. Hopefully something can be adapted without a lot of fabrication.
