About a month ago I go to start my car, nothing. All the lights light up so I have juice. I move the shifter back and forth, nothin. So I jack the car up looking for the starter, and decide to try it,it starts. so I'm parked in the same place and was thinking about last time and sure enough, nothin so I try the same tricks again, nothin so I wiggle some more things and try it. It starts  WTF
Some people say when your starter is going bad if you tap it with a hammer it will help it to start the next time you turn the key. Why dont you just take out the starter and have it tested for free at your local autoparts?? Its only 4 bolts and shouldnt take more than 15min to remove.
I know the starter trick, thats why I was jacking it up.The first time I didnt even touch the starter and it started.Talk to me more about the Vats I have a light down on my dash and a switch not sure whats going on there, the power to the switch might not even be hooked up.
Yep. Could be VATS. VATS is your vehicle anti-theft system. Unfortunetly, it can also keep YOU from taking your car.
There is a "resistor" on your key. When you put the key in the ignition, two prongs touch each side. If the resistance is right, your car starts.
If the prongs cannot contact the key (dirt, wear, broken parts) then your start-kill is enabled and it won't start.... then you can't restart the car for 3-5 minutes. If your key is worn, same problem.
First, I'd get a new key made, or try a backup key. If that doesn't work I'd suggest a VATS bypass (mid-america, ecklers). Then you won't have the problem anymore. Assuming it's the VATS.
You must remember that stock the vette runs really hot due to smog....etc..so wires get brittle......
So the best thing is to chase all the bad wireing down and replace.....
All depends on where it was drivin and how many miles on it....
All I can say is good Luck...
But you can do it...
