Default VIN Resources -- Need help!

Can anyone help me by providing some good vin decoder resources? I'm very curious in learning as much as I can about my car.

Maybe you even know how to do it already. If so here is the vin...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I guess that I should clarify. What I want to know is exactly what options are on this VIN? Whats the axle ratio etc.... I hope this makes a little more sense now.

There's more info on the option list under the armrest. As far as decoding that, get a Corvette Black Book. Should be available at most big bookstores. Witht he Black Book and a Carfax search you'll learn all you need to know about your car.

I don't have the original armrest lid. Unfortunately when I bought the car it was in horrible shape and I've spent quite a bit of time trying to repair and resto.

I will, however, take your advice on the rest. :D

All you can tell from the VIN is the year (K = 1989) and the sequence number (7,745th 1989 built).

Options can be found on the RPO sticker that is under your center console lid.

Without the RPO sticker under the console lid, you have just a few choices to find out what the options are. There is a build sheet located on the top part of the gas tank. It is glued to the tank so you would have to remove the tank to get to it. There is supposed to be another copy of the build sheet inside the front crossmember but it is a real PITA to get out as there is only a very small hole and it's very difficult to roll the paper up to get it to slide out.

The National Corvette Musem can provide you with copies of both the build sheet and the dealer window sticker for a fee. https://www.corvettemuseum.com/library-archives/build_sheets/index.shtml
They are pricey if you aren't a menber of the NCM but you can join first (it's tax deductible!!) and then you get a reduced price in addition to 10% off anything in the Museum store.

The build sheet has a list of the RPO codes for every item installed on your car. Once you get that info, you can look here http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...o/8496rpo.html for the meanings of the codes.

As far as the VIN itself, here's a few of the codes
1 Nation of origin: USA
G Mfgr: General Motors
1 Division: Chevrolet
YY Car line: Corvette (YZ ZR-1)
3 Body type: Convertible (2 Coupe)
1 restraint system: manual belts
8 engine type: L98 5.7LV8 MFG: USA Usage: Chevrolet
2 check digit
K year code: 1989
5 Assembly Plant: Bowling Green
107745: Plant assembly code (yours is # 7745 from 1st day of production)

YY = Corvette, but mine is AY, why is that?

The 84 VIN had the restraint system code in the 4th position of the VIN like the shark cars. Apparently that was the last year like that and the only C4 production year in that format. The "YY" started with the 85 production year.

Hey I just wanted to say thanks for all the help. So far I've been to quite a few different websites dedicated to the different manufactured cars people own and this one so far has been the best.

Heres to ya
